| I just bought it after thanks giving. It came with Sonic MyDVD. Though I did not like that software verymuch, writer has been good. I created 4 home DVDs sofar( 1 DVD+RW came with Writer, and 3 Ritek 4X DVD-R from PC Club). All were written at 4X, and used on Sony 655P DVD player without any problems. | just got a LDW-411S (for $90 USD, mind you!) and it kicks ass. First thing I did was get the newest bios, and everything plays fine on my shitty emerson DVD/VCR combo. Nero 6 gives me "possible read error" when i start to write to +RW media, but it never results in failure. | I bought mine from Circuit City for $129 with $30 in rebates ($89 total). I had to return the first one as my system could not read the DVD Man ID correctly (it worked at first then died [P2.4GHz W2K Pro]). Unit was made in Sept 2003. | I bought the Liteon LDW-411S last month. I've burned two DVD's (OCTRON DVD-R 4X) with the firmware DR4FS07. The DVDs work perfect on my Cyberhome AD-L 528. Last week I update my firmware to DR4FS0F and burned an other DVD on a Traxdata DVD-R 2x and it works also fine on my DVD-Player. So I think the Writer is a very good choice. | Installed this with new PC. Seem to be working perfectly apart from the fact it wont Burn DVD's. When I go to Burn Movie DVD's it only recoznizes that the files are only Images and not Data. | read all the comments just after I bought the drive.. Thanks.. 0F ver. I flashed it before I even burnt a disk. Pooped in into a normal PC and could not see the drive in Nero 5.5.9 put it on a USB thingy and tried it got same results on the Presario 2100z (AMD2.6+,60g,512m) Laptop. Went to Nero's site got the Version 6.00.23 of Nero and works like a Charm! on both the PC and the laptop. It included Media.. 4x DVD+RW burned in 19 mins (4gig)!!! TDK 2.4x DVD+RW works well but no other device can read it.. even another burner of different brand. Burned the included DVD+R 4x media at 1x speed on the laptop in 59 mins. NOTE: the Laptop has a USB1.1 (I figure it tops out at 1,100/kps) but the drive supports a buffer under run feature of some sort.. not sure if it's possible to get a buffer underrun in this situation. I'm IMPRESSED! the Resulting DVD+R burn reads ok en everything I tried. The other DVD burner, my laptop's DVD reader (not the burner) and a DVD player. ya I'm happy... seems like it's not the drive you buy.. it's the media. | Took out a borrowed LG4040 and replaced it with the 411S. I had about 75 of the CompUsa -DVR(princo 1x) that I had been using with no problems or coasters with the LG. I installed the 411 and proceeded to burn 25 DVD's for promo handouts. Write time was about half of what the LG was and everything seemed fine. EVERY DVD I burned could be read by the 411 but could not be read by ANY DVD player I tried. They would not even read in other brands of DVD drives I tried on a few other computers. Upgraded the firmware and I burnt another trial princo and it worked fine. I proceeded to burn 10 more (using the same ISO file and Clone DVD that I have always used) and out of 10, 3 failed or stuck and were nothing but coasters. If you buy this drive, UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE first. Even after that it seems to be very picky with the media. I'm still on the fence until I try some better 4x media that is recomended by them. | I bought this burner at www.dustin.se for 1095 sek. it didnt work at first on some not so expensive media sutch as sky dvd-r . then i tryed some other media types and even they didnt work so god. then i red on DVDR HELP that you could update the firmware on liteon homepage. and so i did and look what i found A PERFECT DVD BURNER THAT DOES EVERYTHING THAT I WANT TO DO. | Since updating the firmware to fsof now cheap generic dvd-r burn at 4x with no errors and play in my apex 1500,Havent burned any coasters since the first 3 generics and have burned about 40 dvd-/+r in the last 2 weeks. | Work pwerfectly writing to memorex DVD+R ever since I upgraded the firmware to DR4FS0F. Make sure your other hardware is up to speed. 4X DVD is writing at 5.25MB/sec (~35X CDR), test your HD and see if it can trnasfer data at that speed since there is no buffer underun protection when writing to DVD(at least that is what my NERO said, only functional when buring to a CDR/RW). I had to use an IDE RAID to make sure the transfer is up to speed. Backed up about 5 movies now, never a coaster and works perfectly with both my Toshiba SD2805 and Sony PS2. | had my liteon ldw-411s for a month had no problems with it upgraded my firmware to dr4 fsof and found it doing the job i want it to do.had no problems with princo 4x and might stick to then found the new firmware helps to play in my brother dvd player so others upgrade your firmware you should find its better. | Had the drive for 2 weeks and am nbow returning it to the seller. Useless piece of equipment. Good specs but does not live up to them. It would not recognise any of my DVD-R (-) disks, only the + disks. The drive seems to be good for some people but not others. | Update RE: Gary 11-16-03 I have burned a SONY4x DVD-R, and a Memorex DVD-R 4x...Both play flawlessly. I also purchased another one of these burners so now all my systems have DVDR/RW units. I also own 1 DDVDRW4 Digital Research unit. BTW, also did a COMP USA 2.4x DVD+R and it played fine....all played fine in my Sony DVP-NS725P those having issues might wanna update firmware before doing anything else. also close your un-needed programs....IE: Antivirus, Firewalls, Internet Connections. | This burner gave me so many problems with "writing errors" and ruined countless blank media. 2 out of 15 dvds came out in working condition. Do yourself a favor, go spend about 30 more bucks and get a pioneer 106. I did and it works like a charm with the excat same media and programs. | I picked up this burner for $98.87 at Wal-mart and So Far it is not a bad unit....Using decrypter as a Reader I get 8.9x on the read speed. I have only burnt with Comp USA 1x media (Hell at $20 per 25, A coaster here or there don't bother me) Anyway...So far it's seems good, I am gonna try a Sony Blank Media and Memorex on it. | I've had this drive for two weeks. I immediately updated the firmware to FS0B. I've used Fuji & Maxell media and they've played in five different stand alone DVD players.
