Been in use for 1 yr now, never installed packaged software, upgraded driver and firmware whenever available from manufacturer's website. Using for DVD movie backup only, have burned over 400 -R discs on TDK, Ritek, Prodisc, TY and 1 Fuji +RW using various programs (w/ XP), such as DVD X Copy, Nero Ultra, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Have made very few coasters and have narrowed them down to defective batches, Taiyo Yuden being the most reliable thus far. Could obviously use some more speed, but I knew what I was getting into when I purchased it. Well, not exactly, did not know at the time it had a NEC drive in it, no wonder it's still going strong. I'm keeping it until a DL -R writer comes out, seems like too many compatability issues with the DL +R media on stand alone's. Comments posted by HatchetMan from United States, November 02, 2004. This writer is great. got it at office max for $200. made about 10 copies of my movies and no problems. I used dvd decrypter, dvd shrink, and nero 6 ultra. Setup was as easy as it gets. Just plugged it into my laptop and was buring right away. No need to use any software they send with it. Xp reconized with right away. awesome burner Comments posted by dan from United States, February 20, 2004. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |

Works great. Had problem burning with instant copy, but after closing roxio 6.0 drag-to-disc worked perfect. Comments posted by Sam from Other, January 08, 2004. Rated this writer 9 of 10. |

Just got this a few days ago. Installation was easy and problem free on my 2 year old Compaq Presario desktop AMD Athlon XP 1.53Ghz with USB 2.0 . For now, have just used with DVD X-Copy Xpress and copied 3 dvd`s (matrix2, tombraider2, starwars ep2) onto dvd-r (maxell dvd-r :up to 4x) and all came in at an average of about 45 minutes read + write. Was able to play them on a PS2, a Pioneer DVR-310 and a year and a half old Panasonic dvd player. Utilizes -R(2X or 4X), +R(2.4X or 4X), -RW(2x) and +RW(2.4x) blank dvd`s. Unrated (no speed designation) or 1X discs are not recommended. Comments posted by ssprinter from Other, January 01, 2004. Rated this writer 8 of 10. |
