Bought this after seeing review that this was a Ricoh OEM. Has bitsetting (Book Change) capability. I got mine retail packaged wth a load of software and a nice manual for less than the OEM Ricoh model bare. This drive reads faster than my old NEC ND-1100a. The Nero 5.5 it comes with gives you access to the Bitsetting/Book Change capability. Seems like a very good drive overall. Comments posted by gkar from Other, December 03, 2003. Got this from Dabs in the U.K. with firmware 1.08. Upgraded to 1.11 from the Aopen web site. A great little burner. Using Arita (Ritek) 4x disks, perfect burns every time so far. Considering you get a 52xCDR,12xCDR/W,4xDVD+R,DVD+R/W in the pack its a bargain. As far as I can tell its the same drive as the Ricoh MP5240A. I've used Nero, AnyDVD, CloneDVD. Can't find a fault with it. Just make sure you enable DMA in your IDE controller device settings. Get one. Comments posted by Peter Hawkins from Other, September 22, 2003. I live in France in Paris area and I've bought this burner at AUCHAN for 149 Euros about 164 USD.AUCHAN is a well known big stores network in France. It seems to be a very good bargain look. For that money You've got a bundle of software not the up to date ones but not too bad for a start: video studio 7 power DVD 4 Nero 5 InCD Neo DVD Plus you've got 1 DVD+R 4x brand Ricoh, 1 DVD+RW brand AOPEN,1 CDR 700mb 52x Aopen, 1 CDRW 700mb 12x Aopen Not too bad isn't it guys? I've got an old DVD stand alone player Toshiba SD 100 E I've just tried to burn the DVD+RW and it Works perfectly!! You just need to change the bitsetting as DVD Rom for the player. Aopen DVD writer is probably a Ricoh DVD engine there is a little software for that job. You'll get the software and information at http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/bitsettings_pc.html In French:" Que du bonheur !!" Comments posted by Pierre-Marie from Other, August 23, 2003.
