| Ordered from Newegg for $35 delivered. The cd burner I had cost me $100 5 years ago. It was time to upgrade to a DVD/CD burner. So far a very good burner. Has burned all discs that I have thrown at it. I have burned a dozen discs without any coasters. Looks like a well built drive. Right now, I would buy it again. | This drive is like all the other BenQ drives I own, Fast speed 16x, good write quality, error correction is better than average.I have had this drive for a few months now and it has done everything I have asked it to do. This drive takes most 90% dvdr's and cdr media from cheap to expensive brands.Oh yes very important RAM media to wow.Note I also had some very scratched dvdr's and cdr's that my sony and HP writer couldn't read to my surprise this BenQ dq60 was able to read them all,saved my data from getting lost for ever.I recommend this drive to any one you will love this Benq ,just for the books this Benq uses different hardware/chipset than all other Benqs (Teac/Matsushita).Go for it buy it! | Got about 3 weeks ago from Newegg for $39. It came wrapped in bubble wrap, a CD, no manual and no screws. It's an internal drive but I put mine in an external enclosure with USB connection to my PC. It won't burn at advertized speeds 16X, but will burn around 10X. I usually don't burn faster than 4X anyway, just wanted to test it out. Reads fast enough, up to about 11X. I don't know if my connection affects read and write speeds. It is faster than my Maddog that I bought in 2004 which I am happy with, so I really can't complain. Unit came with firmware version MRCC. Checked Benq's site for updates, finally found update on their Australian site (MREC). It reads/writes RAM, -R/RW, +R/RW. Have used Memorex +RW, Fuji -RW, Maxell -R, Memorex -R (16X), and others with no problems. So far so good. Comments posted by Willy from United States, January 24, 2006. Rated this writer 8 of 10. |

| hi just got and sent back 1640 benq would not burn second level dual layer and was slow on single level/4.7gig discs i burn 8.5 gig a lot every failure is like a death in the family money wise not impressed with sony 720 and am moderatly happy with lg4120b its not easy to find a drive that likes a varity of discs and will burn without pixilation at speed ps been burning discs for 5 years..... | Have been burning for 7 years using multiple drives and disc, reason I got this drive was to test the Arita dvd-r that meritline is selling, My NEC 2500a, 2510a, 3520a, were burning fine but when checking with dvdinfopro they had mixed crc read error, got the benq DQ60 drive from newegg, and burned the arita dvd-r, and ritek-go5, ritek-go4, vernatim, tdk 2x, and 16x, taiyo yuden, memorex, all burned flawlessly with the benq drive, with no read errors, tested the disc that I burned with NEC drive which showed crc error with nec but with Ben Q drive this discs passed with no crc read error, My final point is you can use the latest firmware and the best media and best drives and still show different results, the benq did not truly burn 16x but reduced some media to 12x and some to 4x, but as we all know a stable burn is a slow burn my preference is and always will be 4x, dont push this drive down until you try it, my reason for trying it is that ritek states that even with firmware the NEC can show you problems with ritek media and this is true, but since I have bought 5000 arita disc which are GRADE A as suppose to others saying, this benq $40.00 drive was worth the purchase. | I ordered a BenQ 1640 and got this one. I returned it without try. It looks like this is not a good burner. Just found the first two user comments for this one.
