| i had it for 2 year now and the number of discs it had ruined so far are - 3. that's right, 3 discs in 2 years. even with an obscure media, this burner takes everything it has, and pulls off the burn. media compatibility isn't an issue, even with the original 1.1 firmware it came with. this was the first DVD Burner i had, and if at any point I'll need to buy a new one, I'll search high and low for another one of the same model! | My DVDR1648 is dead after 13 months of use...approximately only 300 discs burned (sigh!) but in all this time it has worked in a excellent way: no problems of compatibily in writing or reading any media, fast, accurate, low level of errors also using poor discs. | Good Drive. I havn't upgraded the fw from 1.0 but still i have no probs as of yet. i've burned about 30 DVD so far,and just 1 was unable to be burned,but that was a really unknown media.all the rest are just fine,with verifications successfull.Although i have some issues with burning at 16x,it's not a deal breaker. | I've got this writter for a week now and have had absolutely no problems with it. I've succesfully updated the firmware to version 2.2 which supports the Solidburn technology. | i just bought a philips dvdr1628 and have found that the firmware is locked and cant be updated but what a drive its great i upgraded from crappy emprex 1016 and have had no coasters since but would love to know if the firmware is able to be upgraded in the future any help appreciated Comments posted by michael from United Kingdom, September 14, 2005.
