Tried to burn to some Datawrite Yellow (8x) - the first disc burned at 8x as it should, the rest dropped to 4x despite the burn speed staying as "max" (the discs were from the same spindle / batch). Manually setting the burn speed to 8x made no difference. The media still burns happily at 8x on an LG drive I have attached to another machine. Just bought a new computer from Fujitsu siemens - a Scaleo H with AMD x2 4200 dual core etc etc, and the dvd writer was the Philips 8701. A bit unsure if I should cross flash as I have never done anything of the sort before. I would prefer it to be the Benq, as it has more add-ons, and seemingly a better drive. Still hedging, mainly due to the warranty ! Comments posted by Phil K from United Kingdom, February 14, 2006. Rated this writer No rating. |

Have this drive fitted to a Dell 5100. No problems writing or reading DVD+R/RW. Can write DVD-RW. Cannot read DVD-RW disks (finalised, of course) created on my Panasonic DMRES20DEB. The panny created disks can be read on my old Tosh laptop and on my stand-alone DVD player. Tried with Verbatim, Maxell, and TDK 2x and 4x media. OEM drive in Dell XPS 600. So far no problems burning +R,-R and +RW discs with Nero 6. It's also burned CDR/RW discs with no problem. Bitsetting is available, I used DVDInfoPro to set it. I haven't tried any DL media. Supposedly this can be cross-flashed to a Benq 1640, but I haven't seen a need to do so. Comments posted by Dave from United States, November 21, 2005.
