1016IM with latest firmware, under linux 2.6 ide-cd module and using growisofs, have burned over 500 dvd+r with 100% success rate at 4x-8x, regardless of media type. I suspect most problems with the drive (barring hardware failure) are due to windows drivers not implementing a full MMC-3 instruction set. At my recommendation, 3 others have went with the above setup in the linux 2.6.x networked storage servers, all with 100% success rate. Can't speak for windows, but under Linux you simply can't beat the price/performance ratio. Comments posted by sonick from United States, March 05, 2006. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |

Bought the drive at Staples for $19.94 after rebate. It is a BTC Model 1016IM drive. Downloaded latest firmware from Emprex (A091). I have heard BTC has discontinued firmware updates for this drive. Also, bought two cheap 50 packs of 8X Playo discs at the same time for $4.94 each. The DVD-Rs write fine at 8X but speed must be lowered to 4X on DVD+Rs to get a burn without errors. Used Nero 7.0 for burning. Considering the price, I would have to say this is a good drive for the money. Comments posted by james1211 from United States, February 26, 2006. I BOUGHT ONE AFTER CHRISTMAS...WORKED GREAT FOR A MONTH, NOW IT WON'T WRITE WITH XCOPY9, DVD2ONE, DVD DECRIPTER, MAGIC COPY, OR ANY OTHER PROGRAM. i'D RECOMMEND STAYING AWAY FROM THIS MODEL. Comments posted by DAVID from United States, February 11, 2006. Rated this writer No rating. |
