| Hello everybody. This burner rocks! Made over a dozen DVD backups, and 3 CD-Rs for initial tests. Bought Pioneer A06 that comes with a 4X DVD-R, a 2X DVD-RW, and Ulead SE DVD software suite. This burner is a replacement for my TDK indiDVD 440 bought on July 30 and returned July 31 due to incompatibility with Princo 4X discs and software issues. The Pioneer was a few dollars cheaper than the TDK, but bought the TDK for the sake of trying a different brand. I already owned 2 Pioneer car decks, 1 Pioneer laser disc player, 2 Pioneer DVD players, and 1 Pioneer DVD-Rom. I thought it was time for a change, but TDK did not made the grade. The moral of the story is: the grass is not greener on the other side. Stick with a brand that has served well over the last 20 years. Go Pioneer! | ok , got the burner on Friday last week and it worked fine till Thursady just gone and then it started to not burn ( anything cdr/dvdr ) so I uninstalled it and let windows reinstall it , it worked 1 time then wouldnt work untill a reboot so I figured a format was a best bet , formated and reinstalled everything and its the same burn 1 cd then need to reboot before I can burn another cd . | This burner STINKS. I had a DVR-105 that lastet 4 months, then i got this DVR-106d in an exchange with the faulty DVR-105,and to my horror none of the media that worked very well with the 105 seems to work on the 106.. I have tried Princo DVD-RW 1x, Datawrite Classic Yellow 1x, and Datawrite Red 4x all burn well,but won´t play in either my 2 standalone pioneer DVD players (717,343). I seem to be having the same problem with all this media, as i had with the bulkpaq 1x purple gen3 on the 105.. It burns fine,but when played in standalone the picture starts pixelating an hour or so in,and gradually get worse till it simply stops reading. When writing data,seems i can´t read the files past the app. 1GB mark,every file after a certain point on the disc is unreadable. | A wonderful piece of hardware! I bought mine on ACCU PC.com for $236 and had no problems installing it. Been using Sony DVD-R(2x) and Maxell DVD-RW(1x), DVD+R(4x), and DVD+RW(2.4x), all work great. The Verbatim DVD-R and DVD-RW disca that came with the burner are great as well. Haven't tried any "cheapie" DVD media as of yet, but I'm planning to get some Ritek since most everybody's saying it's great for its price. Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2.0, which came with this burner, also good software for putting together my DVDs and also for burning them. However, DVDMF will not burn DVDs sized above 4.1 Gigs and the software starts acting peculiar. If you've been planning to get a DVR-A06U/106U, then stop planning and just do it! | Bought mine for £130 from bigpockets.co.uk. Installed in place of existing DVD-ROM drive with no probs, WinXP fired up and recognised it straight away. So far I've tried it with: DVD+RW Memorex 4.7GB 2.4x DVD-RW JVC 4.7GB 1x DVD-R JVC 4.7GB 2x DVD-R Ritek Unbranded 4.7GB 4x CD-R Octron 700MB 24x and 40x All perform perfectly with the drive, and results are also readable on my Maxim DVD player. There are very few things I can fault this drive on. If anything, the buffer size is maybe a bit small, at 2MB (my CD-RW drive has an 8MB buffer), but as long as you don't do anything particularly processor- or HDD- hungry while writing, it's fine! | What can I say, had a Panasonic before which I had a lot of problems with. Disks would often freeze half way through a film, I put this down to cheap/bad disks for a long time (Datasafe, White Label, Nashua etc. I have now purchased the 106D, the same cheap/bad disks work perfect (every one)in standalone and PS2. This DVD writer is class, not only does it write DVD-R/-RW DVD+R/+RW CD-R/RW it is also capable of RAW DAO which is great for 1:1 backup of games etc. Recommend this writer to anyone without doubt. | I had alot of problems with the pioneer DVR-A06. With nero 5.5.10.42, I burned nothing but (dvd)coasters. For regular cdr's and cdrw's, I had no problem. I tried burning them with Roxio easy cd & dvd creater 6, same problem. But after a few coasters, I tried to do it with pinacle instant cd+dvd, It works great. | just purchased a pioneer 106d (A06) from big pockets.com £130.00 but it does not work they say i need nero 6 i am running winxp i think i need extra drivers because it does not read or write but xp recognises it as a pioneer 106d and is working properley but it is not -------------------------- I too had problems with the version of nero I was using. I installed Nero 6 and it's working great. Only problems I've had is burning the Bulkpaq G3 v2 purple. Crap disks, had nothing but trouble with them. The shop replaced the first pack of 50, of which the first 12 died (outer edge probs), with another 50 and they're just the same. Tried burning other media though and this drive is fantastic. | Just bought the A106 at new egg $245 shipped 2 day. I had a few issues with the install as my slave on the IDE channel is an MSI CDRW. After checking and correcting the jumpers all went well. The biggest issue I had was installing the ULEAD programs. I got the dreaded blue screen of death and could not uninstall the SAICDR.SYS file. Had to finally go back a day and restore the system using XP Pro restore. I burned the inclused DVD-r from verbatium using DVD archetech from Sonic Foundary. It played on my new Panasonic DVD F65, but would not play on my older Phillips DVD 711 at ALL!!I don't blame the Pioneer for this as the newer DVD player did excellent. I also backed up my Vegas 4 Project fileson the included DVD-RW and they were perfectly backed up and in good time. The -R format on the fly is great. About 28 minutes at 2X I do believe this is the best DVD burner out hter at any price...except the software package nearly caused me to have to reinstall XP..ouch. | Purchased the retail box at eebuy.com for $247.00. Worked great right out of the box on win 2k. Bundled ULEAD software is excellent (considering I am a novice) and in less than 2 hours, I created a DVD-RW that included a picture show via ULead's DVD picture show as well as a video via ULead's Video Studio 7. | I bought my 106D a few weeks ago for the streetprice of 230€. The DVDWriter is awsome. I had no problems burning on dvd-r, dvd+r and also both rw's. Low- and highprice medias. All software can deal with this burner and all its features. The audio extraction is superb too... If you need a dual burner, the pioneer is the right choice. | I bought this burner last week and installed it in my PC this weekend. Its been very straight forward with everything working first time! I am using NERO for writing software and EMTEC DVD-Rs for media. Decided on Pioneer A06 over NEC ND1300D and Sony DRU500. Wanted a DVD+-RW burner so that I don't get stuck in format wars!
