| Bought this drive on the recommendation of this forum. XP found it fine and it writes data to DVD+RW fine BUT I can't seem to get it to copy a DVD onto DVD+RW? Using Nero6, firmware 1.06. Writes the DVD but when I try to play it, picture and sound both break up. Am going to try DVD-R when I can hold of some. Just seems odd that the 3.5Gb of data I wrote is absolutely fine? | I bought this burner earlier this week and so far it has worked very well rips quite fast have used it with dvdxcopy, dvdxcopy express, dvdshrink and nero! Every one of my backups 8 so far play in both my JVC DVD players have tried -R-rw and +r+rw! Have had no problems, all I can say is good job pioneer and thanks for the great burner!! | Just bought burner from Comp USA for $199 in store at internet price. Also DVD X Copy for $29 (Both after rebates). First PC DVD Burner, have Panasonic desk top with hard drive(Great Unit). DVD X Copy has issues with this burner. Single disk movie back ups are perfect so far (3 movies on Comp USA DVD-R)but will not burn 2nd disk if two are needed. I rather have two disk than compress to one. CD-RW seemed slower than my cd-rw burner but thats a small issue. Nero will not see the burner with the software supplied with burner. | Got my Pioneer 106D today in a padded box from Dabs.com UK. It included fitting instructions and nothing else. I took out my LiteOn CD Writer and left my Pioneer 114 DVD-ROM in since video ripping is not I am told the 106's forte. On start up under WinXP, I could not see the 114 and I had a 'Pioneer 116D' DVD-RW drive! This was due to both drives being set to master. So, I changed the 114 to slave and all was well. I now had a Pioneer 106D. I bought some DatatWrite Classic (red top) 4x DVD-Rs with the drive. Using Nero, I backed up a Nanci Griffith DVD (Winter Marquee is excellent). | I bought this drive at avlogic.com for $180 and added 25 Pio 4x DVD-Rs for $37. Now the drive is at $159!!! This drive is simply amazing. This is the best piece of hardware that I've bought for my PC in years. I am amazed by every aspect of this drive. It is so quiet that I can't even tell it is spinning and it reads discs faster than my old 48x CD-RW. Much quieter than the dual format Sony DVD writer at work. I have been using it to backup my data discs. I used to have problems burning CDs at 12x with the 48x CD-RW that it replaced. Now I can burn CD-Rs at 16x no problem and even more impressive, I can burn 4x DVD-Rs no problem (that's the equivalent of about 37x). I have burned over 20 DVDs and not a single problem! | Just bought the 106 burner as it was recommended by Pinnacle. Unable to write to CD-R, it trashes them within 2 seconds. Writes to -RW no problem but will not play in any Stand alone DVD player. Will only play on PC. Very disapointed so far with no real solution from Pinnacle. I have the latest version of all the software and firmware. | Burned TDK 2 speed DVD-R, Bulkpaq 4 speed DVD-R, Leaddata 4 speed DVD-R and Princo 4 speed DVD-R without any problem. However, I do have problems with erasing DVD-RW. It killed two noname DVD-RW's, a Imation DVD-RW and a TDK 2 speed DVD-RW. After a couple of attempts I managed to erase the TDK again, but the nonames and the Imation are not recognized as rewritable anymore (using Nero 6.0.0.11 and Recordnow MAX 4.5). | Had this burner for about a week. Burned a bunch of movies with no problems at all. Used Verbatim and Maxell 4x discs. Have an order in for some Princos so I'll letcha know how that goes. My only real issues with the burner are that it doesn't come with a decent burning program (it comes with Nero Express... full version would have been nice) but thats not a huge deal. The other issue is that the burner is locked at 2x for ripping (which is common in burners I've read) but I didn't know this when I bought it... and I think thats a pretty lame (and ultimately useless) concession to the media industry. I only had problems with the cheapest dvd-r in the world "digimaster 2x" the writer copied them ok but they woulden't run on my xbox, y write the same thing with the sony dru-500a and they work fine, although this dvds (digimaster)work fine with movies with de a06. | Well, bought the 106D about two weeks ago and it just has to be said...IT ROCKS!!! Burned about 10 DVD's and about 5 CDR's and used DVD-r as well as DVD+r disks as well as a DVD+RW disk. The brands used where Imation and Nashua and were burned with Nero 5.5.10.28. Didnt get any coaster so far, have tried DVD-mpeg2, SVCD-DVD and VCD-DVD which all play fine on a Samsung standalone DVD-player and DVD-Rom drive. | Excelent drive. If using Nero 5.5 you need to upgrade to at least 5.5.10.28 for it to support this drive. I am currently using Datawrite Classic 4X DVD-R Yellow tops with no problems. When I bought the machine I also bought 50 White Label dvd's for 49p each and the machine loves em, I have copied on the fly @ 4 speed and out of 30 disc's I still haven't had a coaster. | I bought the DVR-106D online for $205 plus shipping and it has been working great so far i have only used Fuji +RW to test my dvd players and +R for my movies since all the stores i have been in have +R(RW) for the better price. I just bought some memorex 4x +R discs so i will see how well they work. The only down side so far is the Ulead software locks up my computer everytime i try to use it to convert videos, so i use tmpgenc instead, no big deal. | This burner has very good firmware upon its first release, and beats the crap out of TDK which has at least 2 revisions by now. Although TDK claims to have the widest DVD media support, this is purely bullshit. You cannot blame TDK because all they wanted you to use is TDK DVD blanks. On the other hand, Pioneer sells blanks under their own name, but choose wisely to support other brands. Ahem!(Pioneer is less greedy) For those that posted earlier like Bjorn, who has ended up with failed burns using Nero or any other writing software. Please do use your head to figure things out as I have also made coaster because I did not open up my VIDEO_TS folder to put all the video files into it. You should have only two folders, an AUDIO_TS and a VIDEO_TS. The audio folder is often just empty, but make sure to put VIDEO.IFO, VIDEO.VOB, VIDEO.BUP and everything VIDEO.* inside the VIDEO_TS folder. Only DVD-R works on my Sony standalone. Make sure to mark "close disc" option if software provides setting. Buy Pioneer and read up on the Forums. You will be the DVD Guru in your part of the world.
