What disks it understands??? Why it does not understand new DVD-RW ver.1.2??? How to force it to write on DVD+R? панасоник - лажа Comments posted by Riki Chang from Russian Federation, August 29, 2009. Rated this writer 1 of 10. |

Great little drive, not the fastest on the block but if you're willing to put up with 2x DVD-R then it's a sturdy little performer. I've written 25 NanYa DVD-R @ 2x without a single coaster, I also regularly use Traxdata DVD-RW media again without a hitch but at the rather slow 1x speed. Frustrated with the 1x DVD-RW writing I decided to get hold of some DVD-RAM discs. These work great although the write speed is not nearly as quick as the 2x suggested its an improvement on the 1x DVD-RW. A word of warning however, Windows XP supports DVD-RAM natively but it only supports FAT32 formatted discs so you will only be able to put 4Gb onto XP formatted discs. Install the UDF drivers and you'll be able to write the full 4.23Gb capacity. Comments posted by Jason Arthurs from Other, January 05, 2004. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |

Very pleased with this drive and have been using it for several months. Only wish that I could have grabbed one at £70.... what a bargain! I have been using Mirror DVD-RAM and Nan-Ya (1x-2x) DVD-R with virtually no probs, only about 5 of 75+ DVD-R disks have failed. Agreed about the support though, pretty poor from Panasonic. got it for just over £70+p&p from scan, had to update the firmware first as recomended. backed-up a few films very well with dvd-r, zero defex 1x pure purple and verbatim 2x and traxdata 2x and all went well, used zdefex x4 xtreme purple, datawrite classic, intenso(general)and although they wrote o.k, i could not get back or access much of the data on them, when i needed to???. cd-r media.co.uk, own brand would not write at all so beware???. all 1x dvd-r, after firmware update seem to write at 2x. have not yet tried dvd-rw or dvd-ram so cannot comment. it's a nice dvd-writer though, much better than my now not used nec-nd100 dvd+r and cost me alot less. Datawrite Classic 4x DVD-R poor quality after the first 3.5Gb. Datawrite 1x-2x DVD-RW similarly poor. TDK DVD-R excellent. Traxdata 2x DVD-R excellent (0.99 GBP at SVP). Packard Bell DVD-RW excellent. Comments posted by Steve Wadsworth from Other, September 14, 2003. Rated this writer 8 of 10. |

if u have not yet got the update, B102 firmware go here for more info or try link at bottom of page. the sw-9581-c, seems to be a nice drive and seems to work with lots of different media, that is more than i can say for my nec-1100. and cheap at the price (£65 + vat + £7 carriage)(from scan)now the 4x's are out. http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=18 http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/dvds/SW9581_B102.ZIP Comments posted by phil from Other, July 28, 2003. Pretty happy with this drive - other than the fact it's white and I have a black case... Bought it for £71 (YES - seventy one) from www.scan.co.uk, plus £7 for delivery. Had to upgrade to the latest B102 firmware (available here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1561) before I could get any DVD's I'd burnt to work with any of my DVD players - including Panasonic's DMR-E30 - which questions Panasonics original firmware... Now I just need to figure out how to extract DVD-RAM material to burn out onto DVD-R Comments posted by Joe from Other, July 05, 2003. Rated this writer 7 of 10. |

I really like this drive, I've updated the firmware to version B102 and now it burns very good on 2x, with the first firmware I had some problems in standalone players. Comments posted by SanderO from Other, May 28, 2003. Rated this writer 7 of 10. |

There are XP drivers and tools on http://www.panasonic.com.au/support/DVD-RAM/XP2220NE%20DVD-RAM%20WinXP%20update.htm The SW9581 seems to be the OEM, for this type Panasonic Comments posted by Jeroen from Other, May 27, 2003. Rated this writer No rating. |

I have this burner for some weeks now. Works as advertised. It burns most 1x media at 2x. So far i had only problems with the Windows XP CD burn wizzard, interfering with DVD-ram functionality. I would have given it a 10 if Panasonic would provide better support for the drive. The drive is a tray-loader, so you have to take DVD-RAM disks out of their case!
