| Got it at Office Max on sale for $59 today. Easy installation. It doesn't burn Memorex 16x DVD-R's -- it says illegal disc right before aborting a burn. DVD+R media works great but Memorex 2.4x DVD+R DL's get power calibration error every time. I tinkered around with making it my master, then back to slave, but still the same result. | I bought it Best Buy and it worked right out of the box, I have burned 48X Sony CD-Rs and Memorex 8x DVD+R with no problems. I tried burning PRODISC 8x DVD-R and it would not play on my Toshiba DVP 642 player. I tried burning it at 4x and it worked though. | This burner have been working fine for me. I had seen a few disc that it could not burn on, but that have been like 1 out of 10 from the same spindle. I have used: Verbatim DVD+R DL 8.5GB burned fine at 4x Fujifilm DVD+R DL 8.5GB burned fine at 2.4x Memorex DVD-R 8x burned at 8x, one bad disc that could not start the burning. | My first unit didn't work out of the box. 2nd unit died six weeks after purchase, two weeks past Best Buy's return policy expiration. Did I buy a warranty? No. Stupid me. Weird thing is, the unit will still burn -RW's, but not -R's. On -R's it just suddenly decided all media was bad media, right in the middle of a spindle with which there'd been no previous problems. | I was having problems w/ my memorex DVD burner (the "same" model as far as memorex is concerned)and this unit had an updated box with exact same model, untill I opened it and saw a completly diffrent unit. You can identify this unit not by model # but by the picture on the box. If it shows a large LED and volume and headphone jact then it is this crappy Lite-On. I tried one burn w/ my favorite Linkyo -R 8x which burns @ 12x in the NEC clone version. This one only burned @ 8x and wrote the lead out for over 5 min. It said the burn was ok but my philips DVP-642 could not read the disc. What scrap, 1st burn is bad w/ media I know is great! Thank god I got the NEC problem fixed (not the drives fault). | Bought one at Staples a couple of weeks ago. 79$ on special. Works great and a decent software package to boot. Haven't had a single coaster in over 50+ DVD and 30+ CD burns to date. Only complaint is that when spinning at full speed does sound a bit loud. Other than that it beats the pants off my old Pioneer D106. Comments posted by mobo57 from United States, May 04, 2005.
