Lightscribe printing on HP media will produce sub-par results, not crisp, and not as dark. Lacie tech support said it may be an issue with software/hardware of the drive. As stated above, verbatim is the recommended media for lightscribe, as is sony and tdk (for burning). The sample verbatim cd they sent with the drive printed great. I havent tried burning anything yet just trying out the print quality. Other comments: the drive is super quiet.. cant even tell its on. Its a little longer than the average external drive. Did not recognize or work with 2 or 3 major brands of DVD media including Phillips and Imation. They recomended Verbatim media, but it still had a high failure rate with that, about 6 of 25 failed. Lightscrib worked well enough. It produced greyscale images, but with limited shading, and took a while to burn. Its OK for basic labeling if you don't want to use paper labels or buy a printer that prints labels on the disc. I'm returning it for a drive that burns more reliably on more media. That way I can save more money on sale priceses without worry of getting incompattible media. Comments posted by Manuel from United States, July 12, 2005. Rated this writer 2 of 10. |

This drive does support booktype/bitsetting. (but not through the included software) It shows up in winXP device manager as "...DVDRW8651..." After some google searching, I suspect this might be the same Philips core as the BenQ 1625. The BenQ download page for model 1620 has a utility for setting booktype named "Booktype_Management_v8.3.zip", and that utility does work on the Lacie drive. The Lacie factory defaults (firmware CX30) were: DVD+RW: DVD-ROM DVD+R: DVD-ROM DVD+RDL: DVD-ROM Comments posted by orsetto from United States, June 21, 2005. Rated this writer No rating. |
