Burned DVD-R(TDK 2x)and cheap DVD+R and DVD+RW. No problems. A good price for a dual format writer. Comments posted by T from Other, June 15, 2003. Rated this writer 9 of 10. |

I just bought this unit from an online retailer. It reads commercial disks better then my Pioneer DVR-A05, but doesn't burn on the inexpensive 4x DVD-Rs that I use with the Pioneer (invalid media message). It also seems to be more difficult to get firmware updates for this Cendyne/NEC drive as NEC classifies it as an OEM drive and requires you to obtain updates from the vendor (Cendyne). The top CDR speed is 16x, NOT the 24x that Cendyne claims in print. Overall, though, it seems like a very good drive. I've made several DVD compilations and DVD Video disks. It seems like a very solid performer. Comments posted by Bruce from Other, June 12, 2003. Rated this writer 7 of 10. |

Got mine at Costco.com also. Installed in Windows XP machine with no problems. Seems very fast, and very quiet. Made a number of DVD backups so far... using DVD+R and DVD+RW No problems at all. I have been using primarily Verbatim x4 media. Havn't tried DVD-R or DVD-RW yet. Some other posters on the forums have mentioned probems with other NEC drives using the - media. I will try as soon as I can and post results Only coasters I have made (2 of them) have been due to the software I used. I use DVD X-Copy, and DVD X-Copy Xpress amongst others... these two (XPress particularly) don't seem to like making copies of DVD that contain multi-episode series. A couple of times I've ended up with only one of the episodes written to the backup. Comments posted by Rasilon from Other, June 11, 2003. Rated this writer 8 of 10. |

I also brought my unit from Costco for around the same price $239 plus $6 shipping, must order 0nline because it is not available in the store at Costco in Massachusetts anyways. Installed without problems, Win XP Home. It is a NEC ND- 1300a. Burned a back-up copy of my son's Wiggles DVD using DVD XCopy Xpress, works perfectly! I bought this Cendyne (+/-)drive at Costco for $230. Its a repackaged NEC ND-1300A, says it on the case. It came with Nero Xpress, WinDVD4, and myDVD. So far Its worked with DVD+R and DVD+RW. My WinXP pro recognized with no problems. Comments posted by MachineMan from Other, June 04, 2003. Rated this writer 9 of 10. |
