| Had been using the 3530A drive in my Dell Dimension 4700 for 2 years before realizing I wasn't getting full performance from it's wimpy 104C firmware. | Hi, this drive is still rockin' To change the firmware from the DELL 103C or 104C series you must use a modified firmware first like you will find in the links listed in a previous review right here. Once you upgrade the firmware to the modified firmware of NEC version 301, you can either leave it alone or flash it to the regular NEC firmware version 301. | This device is now a +/-R DL burner with the NEC firmware update 3.01 I have had this drive for about 3 or 4 weeks now. It came from DELL as a replacement unit. I immediately upgraded the firmware to DELL 104C and started to burn. At first I got very poor results and a few coasters. I did a Google search and found that there was a much better firmware from NEC and some others. I upgraded to firmware NEC 3.01 and low and behold I now have -R DL disc burning. I am using various DVD media brands and all seem to be burning at thier recommended burning speeds. I have both generic labels and major brands and all work great. If you upgrade the firmware to the NEC version, this unit is spectacular in performance. It keeps up with my Pioneer 110 in dual simultaneous burning. | This drive came with my Packard bell amd64 3400+ from pc world having had a samsung writer before was not expecting an nec to be much better but by god i cant find one thing to fault this drive on so far have written over 100 discs and not had this beast make 1 coaster which is more than can be said for my samsung DL drive.
