| no DVD+DL made from Ricoh is burning. | I have owend two of these from HP, the second was a replacement. The dual layer burner stopped working on both of them, but since the 2nd one is now out of warranty, they say I am out of luck. They have a problem with there product and I am out of luck?? I guess that is the way to make money, make a product that last for the warranty period, then tell the customer that they have to buy another. That will keep up the bottom line!!! | Can't find a DL that this drive will burn. Tried Verbatim, Maxell, others (Verbatim recommended by HP tech support). HP not much help. This thing is a stinker. | Bought from ebuyer.com in UK and had no probs at all - have used Verbatim lightscribe discs,Samsung pleomax dvd+r,Mr DVD dvd+rw,samsung dvd+rw , some really cheap Datacell dvd-r and have been using TDK or Verbatim CDs - everyone works a treat with no probs. maybe I've just been lucky Comments posted by ktech from United Kingdom, November 23, 2005. | Exactly as Per Lonnie. Although UK based, bought a dvd640e from CompUSA on a trip to the US. Managed to use the complimentary Lightscribe CD-R to both record data and scribe a disk , and have since been able to record direct from Studio 9 editing software to my Verbatim Lightscribe DVD+R stock.. but flip it over and Surething SE 4 just doesn't want to recognise it as a lightscribe disk. ... and I still suffer problems trying to use SonicNow software to write data to these DVD+R, some Phillips DVD-RW, some Sony DVD+RW and some HP DVD-R ! Even after upgrading the firmware JOU4E.EXE (rev c) and upgrading the lightscribe engine IS-Engine_14271.EXE Arrggggh.... | I bought this drive just resently. Everything works fine and I was impressed by the lightscribe printed disc. although it is black-and-white (well... black and gold), it looks really tight. You have to be patient lightscribing your discs though. On high-quality printing it took about 28 minutes to print one. I think I am going to stick with printing labels. One thing I would love to know is if I can actually reset the region-counter, or hack it in such a way that I can switch region-coded dvds forever. | Bought from Wal-Mart for $150. No problem installing but 95% of the time the unit will reject my blank disk when I try to copy. The blank disk then is no good once it has tried to write to them and rejects them. The company has no comments, but the software does the same to my cd-rw unit in my computer so it has to be the software. Comments posted by Lonnie from United States, July 17, 2005. | I own this drive. Bought it from Walmart for $150. Not many people know this. This HP external lightscribe burner has the Prolific USB/Firewire combo chipset. Lightscribe DVDs are now available (at least on eBay).
