Low rating because of out of business brand name, troublesome setup, poor manual, reboots my PC at the logon screen if it is powered and connected before I boot or sometimes reboots my PC if I close the tray. Plus invalid media format errors on the bulk DVD-Rs my A-104 records with no problems and even on the blank that came in the box with the drive. On the plus side, supposedly people that have it working really like it and the external black case is attractive (big deal, I know). It did manage to write to a Maxell DVD-RW I had. Question: Anyone tried a firmware upgrade on a USB/IEEE-1394 version? My firmware is 1.06, NEC Model ND-1300A. I will remove it from the case and go IDE if that is what it takes. Got this drive as a warranty replacement for another CenDyne drive (AKA Pioneer a05). Pioneer was perfect until it stopped working for CDs a couple of days before warranty expire date. DVDs still worked well though. This new drive shows up as a NEC ND-1300A. Suplied Nero 5.5 was able to write neither supplied DVD+RW (not sure what brand but cheap one) nor my CompUSA DVD-RW (Princo). First one in 50% of cases finishes with some buffer problem (not buffer underrun), second one with burn error. Well, at least it should work 100% with supplied media&software! Will have to try more, but I think I shouldn't return my Pioneer a05 as it worked with DVDs ok and I have another CD burner. I feel like I will have to spent a lot of time and media trying to figure out when Cendyne\NEC is working and it'll anyway go back to CenDyne finally. Uses an NEC ND-1300A drive. Won't work with DVDxCOPY Products but works OK if you shell out another $100.00 for Roxio software. Software that comes with this Cendyne product WILL NOT WORK out of the box! Tech Support is a pure failure. Might not even exist. I couldn't find anything that indicated that it did!!! Just bought this drive from Costco.com. It was D.o.A (Dead On Arrival). Don't know what to think of it? Comments posted by mir from Other, July 04, 2003. Rated this writer No rating. |

I also got mine from costco.com(couldn't find it at local costco) for $270. XP recognized it without problems. I've only tested 2X BeAll DVD-R and it works great. The tray is load when you open/close it, but when you're burning you can't tell it's working because it's very quiet. Comments posted by Mclaren5th from Other, June 26, 2003. Same sa NEC ND-1300A. Bought online from costco at $289. Comes with 1 blank DVD+RW disk. Software included: Sonic myDVD, WinDVD, Nero Express, Nero Vision, Musicmatch I tried both Firewire and USB. Worked! Used Nero Express to burn on Memorex DVD-RW 1x and CompUSA (LD10) DVD-R 2x. Disks were recognized and played on Panasonic RP62 DVD player. Comments posted by Dirk from Other, May 31, 2003.
