Thank goodness I saw a previous post here - I thought the issue was me. I also was making CD coasters when I used 52X CD-R media (memorex in this case) and burned at the max speed of 48X. There should defintely be a firmware fix or an explanation for this from Sony - but I guess that's just not in the cards. Totally bogus. Anyway, now to see if I can *not* create CD coasters by burning at a slower speed. Comments posted by douglasa2 from United States, October 21, 2007. Rated this writer 6 of 10. |

I just got yesterday (July 11th, 2005) the DW-D26A and it works better than the DW-D22A I own a few months ago. The DW-D26A recognized some "DVD-R 8x" media that wasn't recognized by DW-D22A, so my experience was great with this drive. The only reason that I don't give a 10 Rating on this drive is that some CD-R media won't work at 48x as advertised by Sony but 40x (mostly the media that is intented at 52x). So I need to choose two options, run the drive at "Turbo-Boost" mode to get the max speed, or get media that is intented to work at 48x, not 52x. Hope I was wide clear with my post. Good luck...! I just hit my 100 disc mark and only had one coster. I think it was a pebkac error anyway. Rebadged Lite-On SOHW-1673 or Sony DRU720A. I didnt like how the speed was reduced on video discs. Its also a pain to have to hold down the eject button to make it go full speed on cd's. I reflashed with the 1673 firmware and removed both speed limits. Seams to sit and think for a while after you put a disc in though. Couldnt ask for much more for 50 bux on newegg. Comments posted by Sean from United States, May 30, 2005. I was going to buy DW-D22A because of good feedback and because of the brand name then I was offered DW-D26A and since it was a newer version I thought to take the bite and buy it. I wasted several DVDs and CDs and everytime I got communication failure error. I returned it to the store and they couldn't even get it working so I traded it with a LG GSA4163 and so far I haven't have any problems! I was under ipression that Sony brand would be a better choice but looks like I was mistaken. Comments posted by Ali from Canada, April 16, 2005. Rated this writer 1 of 10. |
