| This will be my second DVD burner. At a friends suggestion, I was encouraged to try a Mad Dog Megastor 6 in 1 Multimedia Burner. Followed all the instructions, loaded the Nero software that comes with it. After burning a dozen coasters the unit was repackaged and returned to the store. Being open minded, I was willing to try another. After many tests (and many coasters) this unit was also packed back up and returned. This time I got smart ( I got a refund.) Decided to go with a Lite-On 16X DVD+/-RW Dual Drive from Walmart. Installed the Lite-On and the Nero Express CD-Burning Software (same software that comes with the Mad Dog) Worked like a charm at the get go. Burned a stack of 25 DVD's - No coasters!!! After 2 Mad Dog DVD Burners failed to work properly , I can only draw the conclusion that the Mad Dog has rabies and is now building junk. The bright light at the end of the tunnel is... | This is indeed a rebrande NEC 3520A burner. Got this burner last week. I've successfully burnt about 11 DVD9 and 15 DVD5 discs. NO coasters yet! I'm using blank Verbatim DVD+R DVD9 and TDK DVD-R DVD5 discs, s/w is Nero 6.6.0.13. I've not tried flashing it with the NEC firmware to support DVD-R DVD9 discs. I set the DVD+R DVD9 booktype to DVD-ROM and so far all my discs have played on all my families and friends' players. You can obtain the booktype changer s/w from Maddog's site. | I just bought this today at CompUSA after reading that it's a rebranded NEC 3520A, but, primarily because it can write 16x to both +R and -R media with of course +/-DL being a plus. I'm very impressed. Installed easily and worked right from the outset. I've tested several different media and it produced DVD Player playable DVDs every time....even on some media that have produced terrible results on my Pioneer and Panasonic burners.
