| I bought the optorite first cause of the price. Big mistake. I wont go into the problems here. I returned the optorite and bought the sony 510A. It has burned everything I put in it. Reads and writes compusa disks no problem. Tried comp usa -r/+r both work. Tried maxwell +RW from walmart and HP +R from circuit city all work fine. This drive recognizes all the disks without a firmware update, unlike some other cheaper models. Software recognizes this drive without any problems. Sony makes a great product and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Makeing a DVD is easy if everything works together such as software, drive, and disks. You can buy a cheaper drive but then you run into compatability problems. It is worth the extra money for this drive. I love it. So far I have burned about 15 DVDs with no problem. I bought a Sony DVD player for my living room for $99 at circuit city. It plays +R/-R, -RW/+RW as well as other cd,vcd formats. Another thing to think about when burning DVDs is wether your table top DVD player will play them. Good luck. If you buy Sony you wont need luck. Comments posted by Mike from Other, July 10, 2003. Bought it beacuse My TDK CD-R died and did not want to buy a new CD-R Burner. | I bought this drive about 2 weeks ago. I had a Memorex dvd+r/rw drive before the Sony. The Memorex had problems with lots of disks, like verbatium, philips, and some cheaper media. I bought the replacement plan when I bought the Memorex, so I took it back to compusa and they let me upgrade to the sony 510a for 150.00. I have to say this drive has had no problems at all with any media I have used. I have used Verbatium +r, Philips +rw (the same ones the memorex would not burn to), Memorex +r/+rw, Tdk +rw, Memorex -rw, dvd on +rw, and some cheap +rw disks all worked fine! | i got this drive, had tons of errors reading disks. exchanged it for another, same problem. foound out it was udma that caused it. so if you have problems with it, first try pio access only, then dma (both work for me), even though it defaults to udma33. | bought this drive two weeks ago and it is one FANTASTIC drive! haven't had a coaster in over 30 DVD+R (4x) burns using exclusively dvdxcopy express and sometimes, i use dvd decrypter, dvd shrink and nero or recordnow dx. so far i've used the following media: memorex, sony and tdk -- all perfect burns (have not had a chance to use the cheaper brands as of yet) so far so good! | WOW! This drive is excellent! I have burned a bunch of DVDs all perfectly. I have captured home movies, converted with TMPGENC and used ULEAD DVD WORKSHOP 2 to make great DVDs with chapters. I used the bundled software as well. I backed up a coupled of DVDs using DVD decryptor, dvd image tool and then verital to burn the image to a DVD (whole process less than 1 hour). I have burned some SVCDs for shorter clips and made a fair ammount of music CDs. (This is just the first week!) I have had zero problems from this drive! | I have had this player for a few days now have made perfect copyies of dvd's using the new dvd shrink and the latest nero with the dvd plug in. Using memorex Dvd-r and DVD+RW both work fine Burned two Xvcds on a DVD+RW using TMPEG dvd Author and Nero. Worked like a charm. Not sure if there is a firmware update ( not sure whrere to look either). But I must try the 4X disks I assume they will work just as well the testing will continue..... | This best word to descibe this burner is FANTASTIC! I have no errors on over 20 burns. All of the DVDs burned are 100% perfect. It is able to burn both Dolby Digital and DTS with no problem. Works on Xbox v1.1 with Executer Lite Plus and Playstation2 with Magic 3.1 using the shoptech brand. This is a definite must buy @ 308.75 from accupc. | Excellent drive I use Nashua Dvd-R / Fujifilm Dvd+R / Pioneer Dvd-RW/Philips DvD -RW. No problem at all. Burn DVD9 to 2 DvD5 with DVD Xcopy version 1.41 (great product). Rip to 1 DvD5 with smartripper 2.41 ,DVDone 1.13 and burn it with Nero 55.10.35. My system: Windows XP prof, intel 2,53 ghz, 512 Ram, Mobo Abit PT533 Pioneer DVD , Pioneer DVD-writer DRU 510A. | Brilliant drive but I bought one and it broke after a day. Dont know why. Could be that i used EKA Media which supposedly doesn't work on this drive. | I just got this drive about 4 hours ago, so far I have burned a cd of data, a dvd - r (Shop4tech brand) data disk, and two dvd video disks, same brand dvd's, the Cyndine I had before would only burn these DVD's at 1x. This machine burns the disks at 2x. The disks are rated 1x. So, I am pretty happy. However, I have not tried to burn a dvd +R yet. The burner also came with some nice software. | I purchased this drive a week ago and have had no complaints yet. I have copied 4 movies using DVD X Copy (www.dvdxcopy.com) so far and have had no problems. I am using Verbatim DataLife 4x DVD+R media and seem to be getting about 30 - 35 minutes per disk (copy and burn) with DVD X Copy. | Just got this drive yesterday. Used Nero 5.5.10.28 to burn DVD backups (created with DVDshrink 1.03) on TDK DVD-R @ 2x, Imation DVD+R @2x, Verbatim DVD+R @ 4x, and KHyermedia DVD+RW @ 2.4x. I erased a movie from the KHypermedia DVD+RW before burning another backup to it. All of the previously-mentioned backups worked fine on a Pioneer DV-333 and an Apex 1500.
