BEWARE - Memorex has switched the unit in a similar box to this drive with the same stock number but it is now a Lite-On unit not NEC. Stick with the NEC - the lite-on is really bad. Check my comments in the "l" version of the memorex reviews. Lite-On SOHW-1673S is what this is cloned from I believe. The unit I had was using this models firmware. Agree with all, very good player/burner. Kicks butt over my old Pioneer A06. Had the same issue with the firmware upgrade, still haven't received a answer from Memorex as to why. Upside: No coasters as of yet, burns faster than a drunken slut. Downside: Problems with the included Nero package, kind of buggy at times. Ooops! Forgot to give a rating. I'll give it a 9.5 - It seems to work great so far. I do wish they would have included at least one DL disk though. I'd like one to test for compatibility with my players before I invest in a bunch of them. Comments posted by JohnP from United States, April 27, 2005. Rated this writer 9 of 10. |

Works great! Only issue came when I went to do a firmware upgrade that I downloaded from Memorex. It errors out saying "Target NEC ND-3520A is not found correctly." So it would seem that this is really an NEC drive. Or at least Memorex thinks so. :) If this is true, I wonder if it will take the beta firmware that is floating around.... anybody know? Awesome drive only $80. Not my first drive, but couldn't give a ten because it does not like all discs. Mostly good though works well with DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Nero. Comments posted by Nate from United States, April 23, 2005. Rated this writer 9 of 10. |

Just updating since my last post. I upped my rating to a 9, 50 DVD's burned - no coasters! Very easy to use, i am TOTALLY satisfied. Just wish i had one of these a year ago (would have saved me a lot of vcd conversions!) Comments posted by craiggus365 from United States, April 15, 2005. Rated this writer 9 of 10. |

Only gave this an 8 due to it is my 1st dvd-burner. Install was easy and using it for 3 days and produced 10 dvd's on cheap Staples -R & -RW media (cheap as far as rating sites go) no bad burns yet. i am very pleased for the $99 price. The dvd's play on my cyberhome 402 no prob, -RW and -R. No complaints Comments posted by craiggus365 from United States, March 24, 2005. Rated this writer 8 of 10. |
