It's simply incredible 4X DVD Writer that write DVD-R at 1X if they are not in a toshiba list.
Anyway someone knows how to remove this problem e let the writer free to write at 4X all the DVD-R certified 4X

Yeah, great DVD burner, it is as great as the Toshiba DVD-ROMs!!! I tested it with a 1x Intenso DVD-RW, a 2x verbatim DVD-R and a 4x Verbatim DVD-R no problems! for just 120€ it's fuckin' great!

I just got mail from Toshiba Tech Support concerning recommended media for 5112. Here's the answer:

---------------------------------------------------------
These media are fully approved for the use in SD-R5112:
(DVD-R Media):
Taiyo-Yuden
TDK
Mitsubishi Chemical
Hitachi Maxell
Fuji-Film
PVC (Pioneer)
Ritek
Panasonic
Mitsui Chemical
Sony
CMC
These cover almost all brandnames for DVD-R media,
all other media are burned with 1x for safety reasons.
----------------------------------------------------------

I tried Princo 4x - 5112 burns them at 1x.
LeadData 1x - 5112 burns them at 1x.
Traxdata 1x (RITEK G03) - 5112 burns them at 2x.
Traxdata 4x (RITEK G04) - 5112 burns them at 4x.

There are some reading problems with Princo and LeadData with my PHILIPS DVD 634 Player. No problems at all when red by burner itself or Toshiba SD-M1712.

I have around 300 Pioneer DVD-RW 1x medias. Before I used Pioneer 104 to burn them and they worked with my PHILIPS DVD 634 Player though I had to eject and load for 3 times. Now when I burn them with 5112 my DVD is not able to read them at all. Again in PC everything works fine.

8/10 till the FW update.

I bought this DVD writer for only €120 and it's cool.It works really well without any problem.Used several DVD-R/RW's and i had no problems. It's really fast in ripping,i only wait less then 10minutes for a full copy of a DVD9 and about 10 minutes for burning a DVD-R at 4x

I can say i was lucky, cheap and fantastic

It's simply fantastic. It works with every kinda DVD-R/RW. No problem in ripping...it could reach 12.4x(about 16.748Kb/s)during the ripping and in budle with Nero 6.0.0.11 it's fantastic. There were non problems with the burning @4x.The best choice you can do

Really good burner in ripping...tested with "Nero Cd-DVD speed". If you like i can send you the results, just mail me.The reading overage in dual layer is about 6x. Seek times is around 130.Unfortunately I haven't tried to burn any media, yet. I'll let ya know as soon as i get some valid marks.
