I need help, desperately!! I bought this drive about 2 months ago. I have a sony 500A, which still works just fine, just wanted to upgrade to newer model for faster performance. This drive has been very touvhy since day one. I have had software lockups, called sony tech support, updated the firmware. Still a problem, have had multiple errors, wasted about 40 dvd-r's. Tech support says that it is a software issue. Can't really get anywhere with them. Somtimes it acts like it is writing to a disc, goes thru the whole process, then the disc is empty. When I can get it to write, the last couple scene selections of the movie, it starts freezing and skipping. I don't know what I am supposed to do with this thing. I am about ready to throw it is the trash. I am beginning to think that maybe I just got a lemon. I have been reading on booktypes, and patches for usb, but haven n't done any of that, except for the firmare patch. Mainly because I am afraid to do anymore, simply because I don't know what I am doing, and afraid to mess it up further. I have window xp, professional. The software that I have on my computer, is dvd decryptor, dvd shrink, dvd clone, x copy platinum, nero,(which came bundled with my writer) easy cd creator, instant copy, alcohol 120. I know that sounds like alot, but when one program doesn't want to back up my movies, or games, I go to alternatives, . The only program that I have added since my new writer, that I didn't have before is the nero, but it seems like such a good program, I don't know even where to begin, if it is a sofware problem, where the hell do I start. Is it just that this drive is very touchy(cause I have had absolutley no software issues with my other sony)Or do I have a lemon, somone please help me. I have always praised sony, and have recommended it to several friends, that were looking to buy a dvd writer. Comments posted by smurfet from United States, April 27, 2005. Company has 2 of these burners. Updated firmware, both drive and USB and had verification problems, no matter what media DVD-R & DVD+R & CD-R or brand: Sony, Verbatim, Fuji, Memorex. Other burner did not update firmware and works fine. Book type can be controlled through Nero software for DVD+R discs on this burner. I set it to DVD-ROM. I bought this external DVD writer last Dec2004 and find it very useful with my laptop. Made successful copies and all played on my Pioneer stand-alone dvd player. But found out later that it won't play on other dvd players or either will freeze during play - and that was very annoying. I read that it has something to do with the book type settings. Could anyone tell or help me how to solve this problem. I could have rated this writer 10 but because it would not play or freeze, so better wait. I always go with the Sony name, and for this particular product, I'm glad I did it again. You actually need little or no instruction to start using this. The right choice for me! Comments posted by Nadine from United States, January 26, 2005. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |
