| had it for about a year got 'power error' or the kind of message on early months as i upgraded my memory (256+128 to 512+256), it's 'power error' no more upgraded the firmware to JY07 - and it's the best condition i'd have lately the JY08 comes which make it slower - yup that is never succeed on overburning, tried BenQ DVD-R,Sony DVD-R with 'unknown error' on Nero no 'unknown error' on BenQ DVD+R, but resulting some unreadable Mbytes (on the end of the disc - data, video, or even wma) with nero disc info, it says can handle DVD-R DL alright (didn't know since which firmware) but i haven't tried any Double Layered Discs succesfully burnt on DVD-R : Sony, BenQ, Verbatim DVD+R : Verbatim, BenQ DVD-RW: TDK, Verbatim,BenQ Comments posted by Yooke from Indonesia, July 13, 2006. | Recognized all my disks until I put in a new Philips Dvd+r which surprised me because I used the same brand and Dvdr before but didn't have any problems. I dug deep into the spindle and found some disks to work. I don't know if this is a hardware problem or if the disks are to blame, but I think like 20 of those disks I ordered are defective or not recognized. | Memorex DVD+R 16x, Fry's Electronix, $19.99 for 50. After I downloaded firmware JY03 all burned DVDs work perfect on my player Philips DVP642. Used DVDShrink 3.2 and NERO 6. Burning speed 16x! 0 coasters! Created about 10 data DVDs with lots of DivX movies. Three of them with no sound. I don't know why. On my computer they played with sound. All other DivX movies burned on data DVDs played on my Philips DVP642 with very good quality. TDK DVD-R 8x, Costco, $21, lots of coasters, Very Bad. Fujitsu +R, 1x, bought it long ago. | I used this dvd writer as external one, putting it in one of those USB 2.0 external casings. So it became a portable external DVD writer saving me lot of money. In India the writer and the external casing together cost me $100. I tried 5 HP DVD R+ media to back-up DVD movies with Blaze DvD copy software and it works great. I have never used Nero for DVDs. No problems so far. Writing is smooth. It also works great for Moser Baer media too. I have not tried with Double layer as they are not available in India yet. | I have had this burner for two weeks. I had the same problem as Mike and Erik burning to the Verbatim+R DL discs which Sony recommends with this player. The freeze occurs when it reaches the second layer. I was playing them on a Sony SLV350P Player. Here is what I have found out since: I took the discs to Best Buy and tried them on several players including a Samsung V4800 and a Samsung V4600. The Verbatim discs played perfectly on these players. I assumed my Sony player just wouldn't read the second layer and ordered the V4800. Yesterday, I received some Imation+R DL discs and reburned one of the files that I had burned on the Verbatim Discs and played them on my Sony Player. Even though Sony Support bad-mouthed the Imation discs when I called them for help, the Imation discs burned great and when I put them in my Sony player, the discs played beautifully. I burned a new file on the Imation discs and it played through as well with the same positive results. I believe the problem is not in the burner, but in the player compatibility. Remember, NOT ALL DISC ARE ALIKE! I haven't tried the Imation discs on the Samsung yet, but if it plays them as well, my relationship with Sony players may become short-lived. | I got this drive 4 days ago. Not impressed much. Good speed. However, i am having the same problem like ERIK. All burned movies after 30-45 min freezing. I have used NEC 2520 before ( Burned over 300 movies)and it was good. I am using Clondvd and recordnow to burn. | I've got the dual burner from Sony, because I'm trying to fit a lot of home movies on the disc. Well, everything seemed to be going ok, but while watching the dvd at a little over the halfway mark, the video just freezes. I can go back to the menu and select other chapters, but it won't play beyond the point that it freezes. Could this be the Fuji media I was using? There's not a lot to choose from out there as far as Dual layered media goes (al least there's not in retail stores). Does anyone else have this drive, and can reccomend some media for me to try? | Just purchased this from Best Buy ($129). I am brand new to the DVD backup world. So far this has worked without problems.
