| I had my eye on Sony's DRU500 dual DVD+-R/W for quite a while since I wanted to make sure I had all the formats covered. But I could not justify the price. I have to say that I am very happy so far with this product. I paid a little extra and got the black model to match my other drives. I haven't tested a lot of DVD burners, but I can't imagine that I would have gotten $100 more satisfaction from Sony's product. The software that came with it are pretty decent (B's Recorder Gold 5 and Sonic MyDVD). The unit itself appears pretty solid. I read from one post that it is very noisy. I have found it to be relatively quiet so I wonder if he just got a bad one. On a scale of 1-10 for overall satisfaction, a high 9! Comments posted by BG from Other, June 29, 2003. | I just got this burner a few days ago. installation was a breeze. So far I have burnt with the taiyo yuden media that it came with and also some white top princos. Both worked just fine. I have to agree with one of the other posters on one thing; the eject button is a big annoyance - sometimes you think you haven't actually pressed it, so you hit it again, only to see it open and then close again really quickly. Not a big deal, and I am already getting used to it, but definitely an annoyance. all in all, I am very happy with getting a dual format burner for $196 shipped. | I had this burner for two days and it works great with DVD-R so far I have not tried +R or even (+ - RW) media yet. The media that I used so far was Maxell v.2.0 and Memorex v2.0 all work fine I will test Ritek to day and see if that works. If it does not the support people told me that the future firmware will support more cheap media. | Almost everything about this drive works flawlessly so far except for one minor point: It has the worst eject button I've ever used on any type of device, especially any type of computer DVD/CD-ROM Drive. Expect a blister to develop on the tip of your finger trying to push the eject button numerous times. Apparently it does not provide enough clearance to register as a "push" so that the tray won't come open. Unfortunately this problem seems to be consistent across the board (comments?). | Get this drive now!!! i was having a hard time trying to decide which drive to get that had the ability to burn -r and +r and i almost got the sony 510a but i saw this drive and did my homework. This drive is manufacutured by Sanyo and has all the features of the sony 510a except for it can not burn 4x dvd+rw media (but this media is not even out yet) but it does have the HD feature put 1.4GB on a cd-r that is so cool. Anyways the main thing is the price you get all these awesome features for $199 you can't beat that. I have burned about 10 dvd's so far and no one coaster i am about to order some 4x -r media and i'll let you know guys know how it went but this drive is awesome. | Hi, DD0203 comes with 8MB hardware buffer memory. The current firmware uses only 4MB, but the future firmware release will take advantage of the full 8MB. | This is the one !! I've burned and tested -R & +R media. Only one coaster and that was my fault. That was before I knew the importance of *.bup files. Now there is nothing stopping me from backing up all my files and movies. and at $100 less than the Sonys this has been the best soloution for me. yo! ho! ho! and a bucket of popcorn!!! | Good burner.. Many features for the price.. The HD burn is pretty cool and works great with Nero Express. The drive was updated to the latest firmware. Burned K-hypermedia general purpose Data DVD-Rs and 2x, "Thats" brand DVD+R, at 4x, this disc came with the drive. I just tried it with "supposedly" certified 4x DVD-R Princo media, burned only at 2x. I bought the drive for $199. w/free shipping from www.pcsupplysource.com. It comes in retail box with good software and a 4x DVD+R... Good people. They shipped the drive right away and since I'm only a state away in ground shipping transit time, I received the drive the next day. I bought the media from www.blank-cd-cdr.com, they have free ground shipping also. Even though the drive still dosen't support much 4x media, which I'm sure in the future it will. It's still a great drive for the price. Burned about 12 dvd-r movies so far and they work great in my Samsung V1000. I'm happy with the drive and all its features.. | Got this burner 15 days ago, burned dvd+r,rw,dvd-rw with no problem. Played dvds fine on AD 1200 and sony dvp-ns715p. I was unable to play a dvd-r even after upgrading the firmware on the above set top player but played fine on PC.(dvd-r=memorex, fujifilm,tdk,verbatim,compusa, pioneer etc.) these players does support dvd-r since I was able to play a dvd that I encode myself and burned to a pioneer103. The region is set to 2 I wonder if that's the cause. At this point I have to assume that the drive is defective. I've tried all software and a fresh system running Xp. TOTO. | Well this writer is starting out to be real nice, once i figured out to use certian brand of vd-r the hdburn feature works! Fuji,TDK,Maxell,PNY have been reported success. Also bought a Mintek 1600 dvd player that supports DVD-ISO, you can burn s/vcd movies as a dvd data and it will play them without authoring, which to me saves alot of time instead of waiting overnight. | Got this drive 4 days ago, burned dvd ok, made a few coasters trying to burn a ps2 game iso and trying to make dvd iso's that they say here will play on my apex's, both a 1500 and 703, just come up with Stop on the lcd, burned a vcd once with fireburner and it came up with a low buffer warning that i only has 120kb of cache......thought it had 8 mb buffer? Well i can only see that it has 4 megs buffer with software i'm using. Hdburn is useless cause it wont do it and i'm finding out from others that they get the same errors when attmpting to burn a HDcd, Track following error comes up and ejects the cd...i'm using latest nero .35 and flashed the drives firmware to 2.06 same results Comments posted by Chris from Other, June 08, 2003. | So far I have tried K-Hypermedia DVD-R (R 4.7) at 4X and it writes and plays fine. Also, Verbatim DVD+R at 4x writes fine but my player doesn't support DVD+R so I will have to have someone else test it. | I got a this DVD burner today. I tested to burn many different kind of blank CDs and DVDs. It was no problem with burning FUJI and Memorex CDs for HD burn (1.4GB). I burned FUJI DVD+R, Sony DVD+RW, HP DVD+R, Memorex DVD-RW, Memorex DVD-R and CompUSA DVD-R with Nero 5.5.10.35. I could burn CompUSA DVD-R with X2 speed. It was on sale 10 DVD-R with cases for $9.99. I love it!! Also, I updated a firmware to 2.06. Then, I tried to watch movies with Apex-AD1500,AD-5131,JVC XVC-300, Yamakawa dvd-218 and Digix media DV-288. I could't watch DVD movie with Yamakawa dvd-218 after burning CompUSA one with 2x speed . But, rest of DVD players were excellent. When I use Nero info tool, it says only 4MB Buffer size. Optorite HP says 8MB. Anyway, it is very good DVD burner.
