is this drive a previous version of the currently available LDW-401S? i can't find any info on the 401S except on the Lite-On website and it's not clear about the types of media this drive supports. does it indeed burn both +R/RW and -R/RW? or does it only support writing to one type and reading from all types? i recently purchased a new barebones system and newegg has the 401S at a very reasonable price. i would hate to get something without knowing what it was first. any answers? What's going on with supports for this DVD -/+ RW drive? Why Lite-On does not acknowledge the existence of this particular drive? I e-mailed various Lite-On supports/sales person from various countries as many as I can find to inquire about this drive months ago and they all said that they are working on it (for over 2 months now). Eventhough I have no problem what ever with the drive but the future of this drive is short due to lack of supports. Is Lite-On try to ignore this matter? I used many Lite-On products over the years and recommend them to many people. But if Lite-On doesn't straight out this matter then that's it NO MORE Lite-On for me. Is there any one here with firmware programming experience that can hack Sony firmware to flash this drive. I read some where that you need to change the firmware or flash program to ignore checking the hardware ID and force flash it with the Sony's one. To all people that bought this LDW-400D drive - let's join together and flood e-mail Lite-On's support, sales,... to request/inquire about supports. If someone know of top level e-mail personel at Lite-On please post here so all of us know. Let the fight start... Comments posted by phil from Other, August 22, 2003. Rated this writer 1 of 10. |

I really like this drive. I don't care if it's a re-badged Sony. It copied DVDs quickly and accurately and has never made a coaster (unless I screw up). There is a multi format NEC drive that is cheaper, so I'd have to say that the price on this one is the only drawback. Comments posted by OldGuy100 from Other, August 12, 2003. I love liteon drives, but this one is disappointing. It's a relabeled oem sony. Liteon is currently not supporting it either. It has problems burning certain media at 4x (reitek) and it will only read DVD's at 2x. I'm sure a simple firmware up would fix these problems, if liteon ever releases one... The LiteOn LDW-400D is a rebadged Sony. LiteOn won't have their own drive untill end of summer. Try to find this drive on their web site. Comments posted by Mike from Other, July 10, 2003. Rated this writer No rating. |

This is by far the best dvd writer ever! It writes everything. Since LiteOn CD burners are the best, it makes sense that the LiteOn DvD burners are the best also. Comments posted by TJ from Other, May 19, 2003. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |
