| Bought the writer about a week ago. Could not get the software to install at first.Finally got it in then my usb ports wouldn't work.Had to reinstall drivers for Dazzle DVC 80.Now that everything is in and working, "I HATE THE VIDEO QUALITY." | Problems with DVD's written using Nero that will not play on standalone players. This is because Nero can not create DVD video disc's the disc's are written as dvd rom disc's This is written into the software for a future expansion i think. Hope this will clear a few point's. | Not yet ready for prime time. HP states that this writer will not support dvd+r! new one out next month that will. Bugs include problems with erasing and rewriting dvds. | I've had the HPDVD100i for about a month now and have been very happy with it. The DVDs play fine on my and my friends' DVD players, and it's nice having such a fast CD burner as well. I look forward to the DVD+R format as well. The bundled software totally sucks except for PowerDVD. But I now have a Dazzle Video Creator II and it looks like it will team up well with the 100i. I've also had no problems using it with Nero 5.5.5, or Ulead DVD Movie Factory either. I've used the HP and Memorex discs, and will be trying out the Verbatim ones next. | After upgrading my HP100i to firmware 1.37 for the second time, everything now works perfect in XP Pro with AMD XP1800 and Abit motherboard. My problems with burning a DVD who would not play on a standalone player was very simple. DON'T USE NERO !!! It will not work. After installing GEAR Pro DVD V6.0 all my problems are gone. | I just bought this DVD burner and I must say it really sucks when used with AMD XP1800 and Asus motherboard (1 Gb RAM). I use Windows XP Pro.I have applied all the XP patches and also upgraded the firmware to 1.34 and then to 1.37. When moving the burner to a Compaq Deskpro SFF PIII 866 I had no problems. XP refused to upgrade the firware so I had to do that on my Compaq (with XP Pro). None of the DVD's I have burned so far will work in a standalone player (tried 17 models which was supposed to take DVD+RW). I even took a 1:1 copy of an original DVD and it still doesn't work. I have tried all the tips from Doom9 using DVD Decryper,ReMpeg and so on, but it still doesn't work. I have used the latest version of Nero to burn the DVD's. I have also unchecked the "Joliet" option in Nero. I paid $833 for this shit in Norway. Even the HP100i have problems reading the DVD's I burned with it. | Works better than I expected on a Celaron 450 CPU system. Must work very well on newer 1+ GHz CPU systems. Software is good, but I hope HP adds some nice features like better DVD menu options. I was disappointed a bit, to see it can only record 1 hour (best quality) or 2 hours (medium quality). Current market price is $599. I tried only DVD+RW disks. The DVDs worked on my Sony 560D player. | Very nice writer: quiet and versatile. DVD+RW discs seem to be a bit less compatible than advertised-- many desktop & PC DVD players don't recognize the discs but the newer players are happy. Comes with a reasonable set of software: Sonic MyDVD, HP (Veritas)RecordNow, HP DLA (drive letter access, like Direct-CD), and more. Be sure to get the firmware update on HP's web site for better recording and an audio CD problem fix. Nice to have a unit that erases as it records- just like the old days of tape!
