This drive has burned everything that I have put in. I do not have one coaster at all and they burnt disks even play in my Xbox without a mod chip. I dont know what is going wrong for you other guys but I am really happy with my purchase and feel that I really saved a lot of money. Thanks Emprex for a great drive at a great price. Got the new Emprex 16X Dual Layer burner at Frys. Have been giving me coasters ever since. Haven't had 1 successful burn yet even after I upgraded the firmware. Used both unbranded and branded (HP) DVD-R and DVD+R discs. All coasters (12 in all). Used Nero 6.6.0.3, DVD Shrink, CloneDVD, all gave me same results - coasters all. Am now going back to Frys to return this piece of crap. Comments posted by Charlie from United States, December 15, 2004. Rated this writer 1 of 10. |

Bought from Fry's Electronics for $59. Updated the firmware to A17J through www.drvupdate.com. So far no problem... burned cheap GQ $0.29 DVD+R at 8X, can even change booktype to DVD-ROM. My old Apex DVD player can read it (it had difficulty reading DVD+R disks before). So, why are others having difficulties? Comments posted by Rolly from United States, December 13, 2004. This is a rebadged BTC 1016IM. It is *JUNK*. I have tried 5 different types of media, and NONE work, including Sony +RW. Two types I tried appear on BTC's website as "supported," and it makes no difference. Latest Nero (6.6x; Full Version), latest chipset drivers (VIA), latest firmware, set up as only optical drive in system, etc. This paper weight won't even format a RW disk, nor write to any; simply gives a Windows "unsupported action"-type error when you try to drag and drop to RW disk. Won't even format a CD-RW!! Format error says to check for compatibility and/or scratches; all disks new. Works fine, if you want a slow CDROM only! Save your $$$...go elsewhere. On sale in outpost.com for 60 dollars. But since the comment about this drive is not very good, I will not purchase it. Comments posted by Han from United States, November 27, 2004. Rated this writer No rating. |

Just bought this thing to find out that it doesn't work with Princo media. Also, I can burn to HP +R media but it is not readable in any of my other drives. I'm taking this sucker back to the store tomorrow. My Sony DRU-500A could burn the Princo's with no problem. Comments posted by Brad O. from United States, November 22, 2004. Just bought it today to replace my Sony DRU-510A dvdwriter. Got this one in place of the Sony DRU-710. Used GQ DVD+R 8x media. Had already burnt 3 dvdr's without any problem. 8x writing speed reached at around 40% of disc. System: P4 2.4GHz, 1GB DDR400 memory Raid 0 using two 120GB Seagate SATA drives Using Maxtor 80GB External Firewire drive for temporary storage of queue for dvd burning. This is a dire drive - I thought I had a dodgy one so took it back to the shop where I purchased it and got a new drive. Both were the same - DVD+R's would only get recognised at 1x even though they were 4x. They would burn OK but had disc errors. DVD-R's burned at the correct speed but usually received write errors. The only media I didn't seem to have problems with were DVD+RW. Anyway I'm going back to the shop to replace this with a Philips DVDRW drive - costs an extra £30 but at least it will work! Stay clear of this Emprex drive! Comments posted by Adrian from United Kingdom, October 24, 2004. Rated this writer No rating. |

Problems after burning DVD+R which are not always recognized ( 30% coasters) , at the same time other DVD ROMs do read the 'bad' DVDs no problem. Latest firmware update to A076 did not help. Burned DVD+WR are always good Pc System Windows XP Home Ed.
