Bought this drive from Newegg for $74.77 shipped on July 5th 2005. I have burned about 30 dvd's using fuji and memorex 8X dvd-r's. I have had no failure's. It has been an awesome drive. I have not burned any lightscribe disc's yet. I bought this for the lightscribe and to use instead of the lite-on 1633s(junk in my opinion)that came as the oem drive and has had at least 10 failed burns. I updated the lite-on's firmware to the normal 1633s and still get failed burns. I am waiting for lightsribe dvd's to come down in price and for my current dvd's supply to get lower still have over 100 dvd-r's. I have used a few Memorex 16X and HP DVD-RW disc's and they both burned perfectly. I also have a Benq 1620 which is also a great drive it will over burn high quality 8X dvd's at 16X's with no failures. I highly recomend this drive just keep up with latest firmware but that needs to be done with all dvd writable drives. Comments posted by Carstud from United States, January 21, 2006. Hi, I got a benq 1625 /w lightscribe. I bought it primarily becuase it had the lightscribe feature and it was cheap. Although I can burn CD-R just fine, the lightscribe feature doesn't work most of the time I try to use it. Using NERO I get a communication error. Every once in a while it will sucssfully do a lightscribe operation, but even when it works the lightscribe feature takes 10-20 minutes depending on the quality setting. Other than the lightscribe not working the drive is ok. Comments posted by Ken from United States, October 06, 2005. Rated this writer 3 of 10. |

This is my first DVD writer so I will not compare it to any other. Burning DVD works well but a Ritek DVD-R was not read on my Philips DVD720 whereas it was supposed to work, I don't know if it is the writer's fault. The changing of the mode (DVD-ROM) with Qsuite is confusing (and probably bugged), and leads to tricky problems when erasing DVD-RW. So I decided to disable this feature. For burning CD, I will go on with my Yamaha CDRW-F1 : I had my first buffer underrun with the BenQ :-(. It has never happened with the CRDW-F1 in two years ! Just notice that LightScribe does not work under Windows 98. Comments posted by Rod from France, September 18, 2005. Rated this writer 5 of 10. |

The best of the best. I've sold my NEC ND-3520 to buy this and is the DVD burner in one word perfect. 99% in Nero cd speed quality scan with good DVD-R like TYG02,MXLG03. Comments posted by tito47 from Switzerland, July 23, 2005. Rated this writer 10 of 10. |

I bought this drive a week ago and the drive works just fine. Burn a few DVD+R using Verbatim X8 speed Light scribe disc using Nero Express and I am happy with results. Also copied a few DVD home movie using NEro and they are also prefectly fine! Insttalation is easy! Also have no problem with burning of lightscribe image on the reverse side of the disc, but found that burning lightscribe image/title(average 19 minutes per disc) is slower than burning movie onto disc(less than 10 min)! Absolutely the WORST DVD-RW drive I have ever owned. I returned it after 2 days. I was using an older LG DVD-RW drive, and tested several disks on the BenQ including Princo DVD-RW and Memorex DVD+RL/DL. It not only ruined my $10 DL disk right out of the box, but also could not read nor write nor even erase the majority of my Princo DVD-RW disks. I had no problems with the same Princo disks on either the LG DVD-RW nor a Sony DVD+/-RW drive on the same computer system. Comments posted by Satviewer2000 from Canada, April 27, 2005.
