Hi, my names Bryan.
Not to sound complete new to this but i really need help.
I've downloaded some sample films from aXXo who is famous for extracting DVD to AVI
So basically what i did was i got his movies in the AVI Format. which was encoded with DivX and audio was AC3
i Opened the AVI movie in Quicktime and did File ->Save As and selected movie as Individual Movie saved as .MOV
i did this step on multiple .AVI movies and Some end up Fine
But some i had played fine for few seconds and you can gradually see the Audio is Later than the Video...
Im trying to Know wether if Quicktime may or may not have messed up the .Mov save??
And How do i fix this Audio Out of Sync problem??

Probably because of VARIABLE audio bitrate. Try convert to mov using Mpeg StreamClip instead.

Hey, thanks alot it did fix the problem, but i found out one problem using ur Tool, when i set it to compress quality 100% on a AVI file thats 7xx MB, 100% quality conversion from AVI 700MB becomes 2.22GB on a MP4 format... is that normal??
If that is then gosh im going to have to buy myself a server to put my whole House's library of movie together.... -
Try lower the quality setting and see how it looks like.
But why are you reconverting? You will always lose a bit quality by reconverting. -
thanks for replying in such short time.
well i am planning to have movies in either .Mov or .Mp4 for the reason is im using my Apple Tv to show only these file formats.
I would also like to know what would be the best viewing resolution
Currently im having movies in 640x264 just to keep the movie to the aspect that people dont look tall and skinny.
Also i want to know what are the better setting to prevent the known inky colors.
I just realized that in some movies, i have black areas which look smudgy. -
Hello. I've got a similar syncing problem. I've encoded these avi's to mp4's using MPEG streamclip. I was watching them in quicktime (on a mac), and I was wondering if it was possible to push the audio track up like +8 seconds? I kinda want to keep watching them w/quicktime since I watch them on my ipod also..
It seems to be pretty consistent accross the board on all my conversions, and I'm reluctant to reduce the fidelity of my conversion since I need to pick out some pretty small details in the movies..
Thanks in advance for the help. -
You can use avidemux to shift the audio in .mp4 files. You can also preview it, and change the value until it "syncs" up properly
Another option is to use a YAMB (gui for mp4box) to fix the media delay. You might determine the exact delay value in a media player first (usually by pressing +/-)
This only works for the constant sync scenario. If your audio & video have different lengths, or your source was VFR, you cannot fix it simply by shifting.
That's a pretty big delay. Perhaps there is something wrong with your encoding process? or were your original files out of sync to begin with? -
Yeah, thanks for the help. Actually, looks like the offset is around 2 seconds. Original videos weren't great quality, but they weren't too bad..
I've fiddled with Avidemux here for a while, and I can see how to offset the audio - I was trying 2,000ms to start, but when I play the video within Avidemux, there's no audio. The file was originally 10-15 avi's, then I made a huge (1.2GB) mp4.
I didn't see how to get an mp4 out of the software, seemed like it only wanted to save as an Avidemux 'project', but I'll play with it some more. I'm a noob..
Thanks for the help. -
You set the format sidebar to "mp4". Leave the audio & video sidebar set to "copy"
Press save with extension (e.g. "myfile.mp4")
But if there is no audio within avidemux, you have other problems. What format is the audio in (use mediainfo)
What process did you join the avi's with? What format was the original audio in? what format was the original video in? IS your current 1.2GB .mp4 in sync?
