Region code hack posted by kalkunen at January 12 2003 does not work. No such displays appear to follow these commands. Its simply Rubbish.

The Hack with the display, condition etc etc works because the Pioneer machine has had an early mod chip added by some 3rd party company. I have one myself.

This hack works fine but you do have to have a modded player, It cost me another £50 on top of the players cost when i bought mine 4 years ago

Yes, it's true that the old Pioneer DV-505 could have its Region coding changed by pushing the buttons as described above, but of course you would have to do this each time you want to load in different discs from R1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. Personally, I've found this to be an acceptable gripe as it doesn't take all that long to do but I'm starting to ache for a new DVD player now.

Anyway, my particular Pioneer DV-505 has a certain firmware installed and it shows the version when you have the drive tray open and pressed Menu, Enter, Display :-
Ver:1.120/8
AV1:3.31RAM
Once this is displayed, press Condition then the Region No you want then press Return three times to get back to a blank screen.

Apparently, this is the only revision from this player (and perhaps the DV-515) that will allow you to do a manual Region code changing. Hope this information helps.

Found this from my archives, dunno whether it is true or not.

"The DV515, like the DV-717 and the upcoming combi DVL-919, does not support the easy 'solder blob' Regional mod offered by its predecessors. Pioneer hasn't removed the 'blob' hack, but deactivated it in firmware. The unit's operating system exists on two FlashROMs, which can be reprogrammed. But this is clearly not a hack you can carry out yourself. Try specialist suppliers like Code-Free DVD, Techtronics and others.

my 515 works as chandra said, but it requires a mod chip.
the chip plugs directly into the main board, and there is no soldering required whatsoever.
