	A missing step on the above hack: After entering the zone code, you need to press the "enter" again to "memorize" the code. If you press Close/Eject directly as documented above, then the new zone you just entered won't stay. You can confirm this by "menu" "1" "9" again to see if the zone has been reset.

	The region hack for CH-DVD 300 also works fine on my newly purchased CH-DVD 320 (looks as CH-DVD 300). The only trouble is, when you hit OK to reset all in the setup menu then the region setting goes back from 0 to 1. DON'T RESET IT!

	I tried this on my new CH-DVD 300, its a super unit and for the price of $34.99 at Bransdmart USA (Palm Beach, FL) its a good buy. Manufactured October 2003 (S/W Version 300S.20.03) What I did with mine to make it region free is Switch player on and make sure there is no disc in the tray. Close tray and press menu,1,9. Change the region to 0, click enter and click the Eject, this closed the menu... The settings stay even if I remove the power from the device. I have tested with: Region 1 NTSC Region 2 PAL Region 3 NTSC The DVD handled the PAL 50 to NTSC 60 conversion in colors with no problems. Since this unit is being sent as a christmas present for some relatives in Europe, I tested this DVD player setting it as PAL and tested it to play both NTSC and PAL movies in this mode, both of them worked great and where in colors. To add to that, this unit is great because it can handle 110 - 230 Volts and 50/60 HZ.

	Just confirming the hack works with a CH DVD 300 bought 2003-12-29 at Wal-Mart Canada. The silver and black versions are stacked up together. At a tad less than $50 CAD pre-tax this has to be a bargain! The hack is trivial and the player includes the system conversion (PAL - NTSC). Hack details: Power up, no disk in. Status says READ then INSERT DISC. Press MENU (status reads invalid key icon) Press 1 (status reads invalid key icon) Press 9 Menu is displayed. Press ENTER on the region, digit turns to "-" Press 0 Press ENTER again Press EJECT to clear the special menu. PS If you're gagging to get at this and the remote doesn't work, pull out the tab that isolates the supplied button cell in the remote control :-)

	I got this hack from a portuguese website. I just cut and pasted it, and have not yet tried it. Macrovision Hack: "1.) After putting in DVD, hit Stop, then Setup to bring up the Setup menu. 2.) Go to VIDEO > SYSTEM > OUTPUT and change the output setting. (Ex. If you set to output S-video, change it to composite. If you are set to composite, change it to S-video.) 3.) Macrovision should now be disabled. Change your output setting back to your preferred method, hit return twice to exit the Setup menu, and press Play." Just wanted to let everyone know that, for me, this hack is definitely working. It is sticky (works after power off, and does not require reapplication for each new DVD) and it plays and records fine through my VCR. As for the comment that there is no "return" button, I just exited the setup the way I could, and it still worked. 	I read the Brazilian website and the guy who posted the Macrovision hack later said that it did not work. The way he got around the problem was to buy an RF modulator (device that allows you to connect your DVD player to a TV that only has a coaxial antenna input). The drawback is that the signal will be converted to analog, so you'll lose video/sound quality.

I got to looking on the box & I found that my player is a CH-DVD300Z with an "Obs" BIOS, manufactured 02-2004. My player has problems playing movies on Verbatim DVD+RW discs, but that's the only problem I've found so far.

	No longer confused in KC. I can confirm hack works on 02/04 machines. Bought mine Sat at Radio Shack for $25 after $15 rebate. Tested on a region 0 PAL DVD and it plays beautifully; ol' Vincent Price never looked better. Read many reviews of this model and seems about half the people think it's junk and the other half think it's great. Figured I'd give it a try & for $25, I can't go wrong. It is noisy while playing but I can get use to it. Hope it lasts longer than the 90-day warranty. Thanks again for all the efforts.

I made the mistake of setting the output wrong and ended up with a blank screen. I tried everything that I could think of and got nowhere. This morning I read the contribution saying to hold down the 'stop' button for six seconds and, with nothing to lose, decided to try once again. I connected up the unit and got the blank screen. Opened and closed the drawer with the buttons on the front. Held down the stop button for 5-6 seconds - nothing. Held down the stop button for about 20 seconds - BINGO. The unit is now back to working really well on all regions. I have disks from regions 1, 2, 3 and 4 and all work well on this unit. I really appreciate all the postings from everyone. Thanks.

Purchased May 15th for $50 at Walmart Canada. Manufactured March 2004. CH-DVD 300Z BIOS 10F. "Menu-1-9" works but unable to enter "0" from the number keypad. Had to hit the "enter" button continually to scroll through the region numbers and get to "0". I ignored the password line. That password is probably associated with the parental lock because the lock level setting is shown right under it.

Region Hack Many people seem to complain that they can't get the region hack to work. I have explained it out in as much detail as anyone could put it, so try to follow along. If it helps, you may want to print this out and have it with you while doing this. You will need the remote control. 1. First make sure there is no disc in the player, and there is no obstruction in front of tray. (Glass door, etc...) Close the tray. 2. Press MENU on the remote (Ignore the 'NO' symbol that appears) 3. With the remote, press 1, then press 9 (Ignore the 'NO' symbol that appears) 4. A menu should appear. 5. REGION CODE should already be hilighted. If you want to change this, press ENTER on the remote. Then type a region code you want the player to have. (0 is all region) Then press ENTER on the remote after changing the setting. 6. To exit the menu and save your settings, make sure nothing is in front of your player (Glass door, etc...) and push OPEN/CLOSE with the remote. I hope this explains it better. If it does not work in your player, you may have a version that cannot be hacked. There are two versions of this player, one with a power switch on the back and one without. The one with a power switch is an different version and may or may not accept this hack. The model without the switch does accept it. This hack works in my CH-DVD 300 and I hope it works in yours, too.

Parental Control Hack This hack allows you to change the Parental Control and Passcode without knowing the Parental Passcode. It sould be easy for anyone who has sucessfully tried the region hack and is useful if you want to watch a restricted disc but do not know the passcode. You will need the remote control. 1. First make sure there is no disc in the player, and there is no obstruction in front of tray. (Glass door, etc...) 2. Press MENU on the remote (Ignore the 'NO' symbol that appears) 3. With the remote, press 1, then press 9 (Ignore the 'NO' symbol that appears) 4. A menu should appear. 5. Use the Down Arrow to highlight the PARENTAL CC. If you want to change this, press ENTER. Now type the Parental Control setting you want with the remote (8 is the highest setting, press 8 on the remote for a fully unlocked player). Then press ENTER on the remote after entering your new setting. 6. Use the Down Arrow to highlight the PARENTAL PW. If you wnat to change this, press ENTER. You can enter any 4-digit code here. WRITE IT DOWN! DON'T FORGET IT! Press ENTER on the remote after you enter the 4-digit code. 7. To exit the menu and save your settings, make sure nothing is in front of your player (Glass door, etc...) and push OPEN/CLOSE with the remote. I own two CH-DVD 300's and also the portable CH-LDV 712. (For info go to www.cyberhome.com) I'm very pleased with my CyberHome players. I think all CyberHome players and recorders can be hacked via remote. The hack is slightly different for older and newer 300's. For 300's made in Feb04 or earlier (BIOS 39u and an EFFECTS equalizer key on the remote) turn the player on with no disc in the tray. Press Menu, (ignore the NO sign) 1,9. A Menu will pop up and you can set the player to all regions by pressing the number ZERO on the keypad. For players made in Mar04 or later (BIOS 10s and volume controls on the remote) turn the player on with no disc in the tray and press Menu, 1,9. A Menu will pop up and press ENTER until you get to the number ZERO to set the player to play all regions.

This is a confirmation on some things mentioned for the CyberHome DV-300 and DV-300S: 1) The region code hack works. I have two DV-300's, one bought in Canada in Dec 2003 and another in US in June 2004. Different menus appear with the hack, the older one lets you select the number, where as the newer one will require you to press Enter in order the region number to change. Setting the region to 0 will allow viewing all regions (I have 1, 2, and 6 disks.) 2) The unit has a automatically voltage switching power supply. This means that you can buy a DV-300 in US or Canada (or presumably anywhere they are sold) and take it to Europe. I first tried the older unit with a electric plug converter (but no voltage converter) and it worked fine. After that I cut off the US electric plug with scissors, peeled the two copper leads and installed a local plug purchased from a local hardware store. Make sure not to short circuit the coppers or leave naked wire visible. 3) In order to get color display on an European PAL system TV you have to go to the setup menu and set output to PAL. 4) If your European TV does not have the RCA video and audio in plugs, but has a SCART/EURO-AV connector, you will have to purchase either a converter or a RCA to SCART cable. A converter can cost EUR 3 to EUR 50, and I can not see why the expensive one would be so much better, in particular if your DVD player has costed 40 Euros... If your TV only has antenna in connector (must be an old one), you will either have to lead the DVD picture through a VCR with RCA or SCART in, or purchase a modulator; this will be the case with any DVD, not only with the DV-300.

To Jack: Don't set your player to PAL unless you're in a foreign country and your TV is PAL. Your player will automatically play PAL or NTSC and send the correct signal to your TV. Most TV's in the U.S. are NTSC. If your PAL movie jitters try another PAL disc or exchange your unit.

I got this DVD player about 3 weeks ago from Best Buy. The region free hack (menu-1-9) worked out fine and set it from region 1 to region 0 (region-free). I tested it by playing region 2 and region 5 DVDs. Everything works somehow. However, the picture quality by playing a non-region 1 DVD is pretty poor. The aspect ratio is not quite correct (I see some black strips at the top and at the bottom of screen, which do not appear if I play the disc with my old DVD player, Daewoo DVD-5700, which was also hacked from region 1 to region 0 according to the suggestions on this site). Moreover, sometimes the picture motion is not very smooth compared to the above mentioned player, it looks like some frames are dropped. I estimate the descontinuity of the movement appears about every 10-15 seconds, which is very annoying. On the other hand, I showed this player in action to some my friends. Most of them have not realized that something is wrong with the motion after a quick test. But they all agree with me that some frames are missing after I showed them how it works with another DVD player, where the motion is perfectly smooth. Well, I would say if you have not seen the movie yet and concentrate on the story, you probably won't realize the discontinuity. This player is able to read my own movies produced with a digital camcorder and Pinnacle 9 software. I tested it on playing a DVD+RW, which my old player cannot play at all. On the other hand, the new one does not play copies of my movies that I did by copying DVD+RW to DVD+R of DVD-R by using Nero. Surprisingly enough, the Daewoo player can play them, even if the manual specifies that it should play DVD-R's only. I used various types of DVD media to make a copy and also burned DVD+R's directly. But no matter what I did, the effect is the same (computer, however, plays them all fine). I have also experimented with SVCD's. Both players can play my slide shows on SVCD produced with Roxio suite, version 7.

I too purchased new Cyberhome CH-DVD 300S from Bestbuy. When I tried to use the other hack menthods .. I too found the same problem .. When I do the Menu - 1 - 9 I see is a rectangular box that says "1". When I try to change it, it does not work. When I hit "Enter", the box disappears. So, what I did to set the region free zone "0" is as follows. I believe this method is for newly manufactured DVD players. 1. First make sure there is no disc in the player, close the tray. 2. Press MENU, 1, 9 on the remote. You will see a rectangular box that says "1". 3. Now press the up arrow (above Enter button). It will change to 2. If you continue to press up arrow again it will change till 6. For selecting "0" press the down arrow. 4. Once you see your wanted no. in the rectangular box, press ENTER button. 5. Switch off the DVD, switch it on, put any region disk (If you have selected "0") watch and enjoy.

Great Player, Can play everything I throw at it no problem. I just purchased two more and would like to convert one of them to 12v. I have the 12v Blaupunkt ME1 now, but its never been a good player. I like the dvd300, it's smaller and compact size would be perfect for my van and car. I took it apart to look at the inside. The power board is separate from the DVD motherboard. There are four wires that run from the power board to the DVD board. One 12v lead, One 5v lead and two ground wires. Any suggestions. And please no one suggest purchasing a voltage inverter. They are bulky and not an option.

I bought my Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 from Best Buy for $38 plus tax on Nov. 30, 2004. The BOX says Region '1'. I tried the earlier suggestions on Menu 1,9, select region 0 etc. Didn't work. Tried latest suggestions, and it works. Basically, 1. Hook up the DVD player. Red/White/Yellow to TV, plug in DVD power supply. 2. Use Remote, Turn DVD Player ON. 3. Open tray and close tray. Make sure no DVD on it. 4. MENU 1 9 <-- 3 keys pushed one after the other. 5. A rectangular white screen shows up, with '1' in the middle. 6. Use up and down arrow. UP changes 1 to 2,3,4,5,6. DOWN changes to 0. Change '1' to '0' 7. Hit ENTER 8. Open and close tray again. 9. Try a Region 2 or 6 DVD. 10. DVD works. 11. DVD Player is now Region FREE. 12. DONE.

Additional comment. I think the Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 unit I bought from Best Buy on Nov. 30, 2004,... is a later (or newer) manufacturing version. So, depending on when your unit was made,.. the HACK technique may change. The other thing that I need to mention is that although the box it came with is marked "Region 1". In fact, after I tried the 1st technique and gave up,... the one that says REGION List shows up at the bottom of the screen after "Menu 1,9". Well, I sticked in a Region-6 DVD that I borrowed,... anyways ( without having hacked the DVD Player ). I was surprised that the DVD played !! So, the unit I got may in fact already be Region-FREE, although the box did say "Region 1". I know the Region-6 DVD I borrowed is definitely a Region-6 DVD because it didn't play in my 2 other SONY DVD Players. When played on the Sony, message came up "ERROR" on the TV Screen. The above info. is just for your info. -- my experience. Bye.

I just purchased this unit in December 2004 from Best Buy for around $30. It has a manufacture date of November 2004. The most recent hack, in which a window/box opens up after going through the "menu, 1, 9" sequence, does indeed work. When the box opens up and shows "1", simply press the down arrow to scroll it to "0" and then press "enter." My region 2 DVD played just fine... A solid, weighty little machine and a bargain at that price. Thank you to the cleaver hackers out there, and to this website for the info.

12V Conversion Here is how I converted my CH-DVD 300 to 12V: Pics and basic information can be found here: http://fordtruckworld.tenmagazines.com/mygallery.ten-id-153-album-28459 Additionl information: I did this conversion almost a year ago so I'm a little sketchy on the specifics, but here goes. The player requires 5V and 12V at approximately 5-7 amps (don't remember exactly) and draws .5 amps in standby mode. You can't use a cheep universal 5V converter as they generally can't handle the amp load. You will also need a regulated 12V supply (your vehicle electrical system is ~14.7v when the motor is running). If the voltage isn't right or you can't supply the amps, the unit will not work. I used a Micro Linear power controller which I was lucky enough to find on eBay for $5. Similar units will run $75+.... if you can find a supplier that will sell you just one. The CH-DVD 300 operates surprisingly well in a vehicle and I've only noticed it skip on rare occasions while playing VCDs, everything else plays fine... and this is in a short wheelbase 4X4 truck. Downside: I felt the amp draw on standby was to high so I have it wired to power off with the key. If you're watching a DVD and power down, when you turn it back on it will always start back at the first of the disk.

This is in response to the hack post: "posted by krolpolski, November 13 2004: VIDEO SETTING FOR DROPPING THE FRAMES WITH PAL DVDs" Krol mentions setting the machines video mode to auto to fix the every now and then frame skip on a PAl dvd (when converting to ntsc). The problem with setting this (at least for those in the US) to auto instead of ntsc, is that the player will play the disc and convert the pal pic to ntsc like it should. However it keeps the pic black and white (as if no conversion is being done). You have to set it to ntsc in order for it to play a PAL pic correctly. Either way it still plays quite nicely and worth the money

Make sure unit is in "NO-DISC" status, ie: a "No Disc" message will finally appear in upper corner of screen whenever power is on and DVD-tray is CLOSED but EMPTY; 2. Press MENU (once only), noting that nothing new appears on screen; 3. Press "1" then "9", NOW noting the region-number at screen-center; 4. DO NOT press ENTER until the shown region-number is what you want -- which you change by using UP/DOWN arrow-keys; 5. Press ENTER only to save and close region-number window; As in past units, region-number 0 is still presumably the region-free setting; Notes: The 320 here has Bios V13, tested under original-default setup conditions (NTSC, etc).. Also, for what it's worth, the sticker-names on bottom of Target's 320(DEC 04) and of Walmart's 300(NOV 04) are actually "DVD320MU" and "DVD300MU", resp.

I have a CH_DVD300 [mfg May 04] Hack as written by sioivo 11/29/04 works fine. If you set this unit to 0 and than hit Enter, you will go right back to region 1. Other hacks will most likely work on different versions. Try them. If the unit hangs you can always reset to default by holding the stop key ON THE UNIT not the remote.

Bought a Cyberhome CH-DVD-300 from Wal-Mart Feb 2005. Manufacture date October 2004. The menu,1,9,<enter>, 0,<emter>,,<eject> hack does not seem to work anymore. menu,1,9,<enter> still brings up the region screen, but hitting <enter> or a number key makes the screen go away. I find by trial and error that the arrow keys will work. So if the original hack (menu,1,9,<enter>, 0,<emter>,,<eject>) does not work for you on a late model unit, try: Menu 1 9 region screen with a 0 should show) <down arrow> (the 0 should change to 1) <enter> (region screen goes away) <eject> on the player I played my one and only region 3 disc and everthing worked. All the DVD keys. (on my Initial 9510, the disc played the intro, but none of the keys worked so I got stuck at the menu screen)

I just bought a second CyberHome CH-DVD300 and after you enter the 1-9, the old menu is not the same as my first machine. It now only shows a large gray box with the current region code in the center, the only way I could change it was to move up/down arrow keys on the remote. It moves up as far as six (6) and down as far as zero (0). I moved it to zero and hit enter. It now accepts all region DVDs.

Hi, I just bought a CH-DVD 300 on 06/05/05 from BestBuy. The hack is slightly different for my model: 1. Power on. 2. Make sure there is no disc in tray. 3. Press MENU on the remote. 4. Press 1, then 9 on the remote. A menu appears with the Region Code already highlighted. I was unable to change the region with the up/down arrows or by inputting a number directly. By pressing ENTER repeatedly, however, the selection scrolled through regions 0 to 6. Scroll through until it reaches 0 (or your required region), then DO NOT press ENTER again to lock in the code, as previously described, as it will just scroll on to 1. Instead, open and close the tray. Confirm that the region has locked in by repeating steps 1 to 4, then open and close tray again. I tested it on region 1 and 2 discs and it works fine.

Obviously, this isn't what I'd use to really enjoy true DVD quality--I still have my nice DVD player hooked up to component vid (progressive)--but the picture degredation in the CyberHome model due to its obviously low-quality components is quite negligible. NO FRAME LOSS THAT I CAN TELL FROM NTSC-PAL CONVERSION!!! WELL-WORTH PURCHASE. Enjoy!!! (My fiancee and I are watching Ally McBeal now--Amazon.co.uk, ~$30/season--which was never released in the US. Just bought two of these babies...both marked Manufactured May 2005. Following the instructions above (turn on, open tray, close tray, [menu], [1], [9]) although the results were slightly different. I never got a menu, only a grey box with a number (1) in it. I then used the down arrow to change it to 0 and then hit [enter]. I restarted it and retried the process, and this time it showed region zero initially. Good! Then i switched it to 4, and put in one of my region one dvds. it gave me an error, saying wrong region. I reset it to 0 and then it worked. So i don't have proof it still works for non-region 1, but it sounds good. now to ship them off to the clinic i work with in honduras!

Here is my Region Free Hack for the Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 ! From reading all the other reports from the folks above, mine was a little different and here it is: 1.) Power on the unit, with no disc inside. 2.) On the remote, Press menu, press 1, press 9. (a small menu pops on at the top of the screen). 3.) Make sure the Region line is highlighted. 4.) Keep pressing "Enter" until the Region changes to "0". 5.) Power down Unit, You're now Region Free. Even when my unit was unplugged for awhile, and plugged back in, it stayed Region "0" :) This is a great little DVD player, I'm very happy with it :).....Good Luck to ALL !!!

This worked on the CH300 I got from Walmart for last Christmas (Dec 2004). I just wanted to clarify a few things that confused me and that I didn't see elsewhere: You can take your time putting in the code. I mistakenly had the impression you had to time it just right. But no. Just close the tray with no disc inside, it will say NO DISC. On the remote, press MENU, the "non-applicable" slash circle graphic comes up. Then press 1, (same slash circle), then press 9, and the menu pops up. My menu says: Region : 1 Password : ____ Level : 8. Adult By default, the region number is highlighted. This is where I got confused. I pressed the control pad on the remote left and right and up and down and nothing changed the number. The only way to change the number is to press ENTER on the remote and it then cycles through all the numbers available. I was never given a chance to punch in a number, I tried it and it didn't work. While I was here, I also set my password code and looked through the choices for LEVEL. I think it is a system to limit the type of movie that could be played, for instance, if the DVD player was for a child's room, you could limit the level to G, PG, or PG-13 and it wouldn't play movies rated worse than that. Pretty cool.

The procedure for changing the region code on my CyberHome CH-DVD300 seems to be just a teensy bit different from the above ones. 1. Turn on the player with no disc in the tray. 2. Wait for it to say "No Disc" in the upper left corner of the screen, then on the remote control press [Menu], then 1, then 9. Nothing will happen on the screen until you press the 9 but that's ok. 3. A "1" will appear. That's the region code. Use the up and down arrows to go to the region number you want, then press [Enter]. 4. You're done! I set mine to Region 0 to make it code-free and it's playing my Region 1 and Region 2 discs now without a problem.

The hacks posted did not work on mine. Mfg'd September 2004, Bios VOE. Problem I had: I got to the point where it displayed the currently set region (in my case "1"), but everytime I tried to push the "ENTER" the region code info disappeared. After that nothing changed regardles of opening/closing tray etc. Fix: When you have the region code window DO NOT HIT "Enter". Instead hit the "Arrow Key Up" or "Arrow Key Down" (right Above and Below the "Enter" button). This way you can navigate to our desired "0" then hit "Enter" and "Open/Close". Now it works - Happy watching to everybody!

I want to Best Buy yesterday , got my unit for $29.99. Back home, I was ready to apply the hack, but wanted to test first the unit. I put a DVD from Denmark (don't know what region is but won't work with my other dvd players), it played right, no codes applied. I was thinking maybe the unit programs itself the first time to the region of the 1st dvd played, so, I changed dvd's, placed one Region 1, it played right. I don't know if the unit came region free from factory or playing a DVD from other region first will change it. Just wanted to share in case somebody wants to try this first

I can confirm, that the Cyberhome DVD player model CH-DVD300ZH manufactured in February 2006 with firmware BIOS 24.7M does work with the region hack. 1. turn unit on. 2. press open/close wait for NO DISC on screen. 3. press menu, 1, 9. (ignore the little circle in the corner) 4. region box appears. press ENTER to scroll thru regions until you reach the new region you want. 5. push open/close again. done! I set mine to region 0 I verified this with a region 4 (PAL) dvd I own. it works great. the picture IS IN COLOR. also played a region 1 (NTSC) afterwards to verify all is ok. The DVD Player adjusts to the dvd and plays appropriately. color and sound work fine. video doesnt appear to jump or skip. for normal viewing it is super! This is indeed an easy hack for this player.

I purchased Cyberhome CH-DVD 300MU from Walmart in Florida about 3 years ago. When I do the Menu - 1 - 9 I see is a rectangular box that says "1". I set the region free zone "0" is as follows. 1. First make sure there is no disc in the player, close the tray. 2. Press MENU, 1, 9 on the remote. You will see a rectangular box that says "1". 3. Now press the up arrow (above Enter button). It will change to 2. If you continue to press up arrow again it will change till 6. For selecting "0" press the down arrow. 4. The instructions did not work for my Cyberhome CH-DVD 300. Here's what did work: 1. Remove any disc in the tray. 2. Using the remote, turn the power off. 3. Turn the power on. 3. Open the empty tray. 4. Close the empty tray and wait until the player recognizes there is no disc in the tray. 5. Press "Menu, 1, 9". 6. A large rectangular area will appear in the bottom half of the screen; in the middle of the rectangle will be a single number that identifies the region to which the player is set. 7. Pressing the number keys on the remote will have no effect. Instead, use the up or down arrows above and below the "enter" button to change the region number. ("0" presumably is "region free".) 8. Once you have selected the region code (i.e., the number that now appears in the middle of the rectangle) press "enter". 9. Press the "opne/Close" button and the unit will save the selected code.

Thank you all for posting the hacks. But.. my CH-DVD 300 was handed down to me without the remote control unit. Is there anyway to hack the region without it? Thanks.

Some additional useful information I have learned over the last 4 years from playing with my own Cyberhome CH-DVD 300: 1. Soft Reset: If you no longer have your remote and/or you are stuck after changing to Progressive Scan (P-SCAN)video mode from the default S-Video have no fear. You can perform a soft reset using the buttons on the player itself. This will bring you back to factory shipped defaults including the default S-Video mode. Under 'Setup' / 'Video' you have three options. Two of which are the default S-Video and P-SCAN. Changing to P-SCAN can result in you seeing either a black screen (possibly with audio) or a 'No Signal' screen (courtesy of your TV's own Firmware) you can perform a soft reset of your Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 by performing the following: 1. Remove any disc in the tray 2. Power off and on the unit from the front panel 3. Press and hold the STOP and PLAY buttons on the front panel simultaneously for a minimum of 10 seconds. When successful, your unit will reset. You will then need to reset your unit for region free (Menu 1,9) and any audio and/or video preferences such as 16:9 / 4:3 etc. 2. Many of the issues people experience with their player after 6months to 2+ years such as 'bad disc' messages or the endless 'Loading' message are because the laser head drive-train becomes 'sticky' and/or the motor that spins the disk begins to fail. If the motor begins to fail, there is little you can do and the unit is so cheap to begin with it becomes financially pointless to spend money trying to get the motor replaced. If the laser head drive-train is sticking there is definitely something you can do: 1. Remove the cover screws. (1 on each side and the 4 on the bottom) 2. Remove the cover. 3. With the unit powered ON open the disk tray by pressing Eject on the front panel. 4. Take special care not to touch the laser reading head. 5. The laser assembly/drive-train slides back and forth along two small metal runners. Using 3-in-1 oil (or finer electronics grade lubricating oil if you have it) and a Q-Tip gently lubricate both metal runners. Do NOT over lubricate as you do not want excess oil falling on the circuit board beneath. 6. Insert a DVD you know to work and close the tray. 7. Using your remote or the front panel, play the disk. 8. Watch the motion of the laser assembly, it has a tendency to stick at the extent of its motion where it reads the very outer edge of the DVD. You can encourage it to start playing/reading by giving it a gentle 'push' with your finger. This will do two things: 1. ensure that the laser assembly travels along the rails and self lubricates and 2. if the motor spins up and the player is now reading your disk correctly, you know it wasn't the motor. This will not work for those players where the motor mechanism is starting to fail or has already failed. You can get some extra life out of your player by leaving the cover off and tapping the laser head assembly with your finger when needed but honestly, for $30, its probably better to replace it.
